Frontier's Annual Results have been published (June 2018 to May 2019), showing a record year and Elite passing 3 million basegame sales

To summarise

Which I haven't claimed. My beef is that there is still so much missing from the original 'vision'.
It was always clear that this vision will not come true immediately after release though. In fact David Braben always said how creating these things would require a lot of time and that they would essentially be entire new games. A game usually takes 4-8 years to develop, sometimes more. Also, common sense dictates that a vision will not always be reality. I wouldn't be surprised (or disappointed) if we can't steal each others ships.

very well then
this video was aimed to raise money for the kickstarter, it was the scope of the game back in 2012.
It's 2019 and the "wants" and "intentions" are not here yet.

So can we say they failed to make the game they wanted ?
did their intentions failed ?
Did they just use words we all wanted to hear ?

I think you were conned by very evil people and should be angry and upset. I am super cereal.

Would you back another space sim kickstarter at all? I'm thinking SC experience here.

At least FD have financial stability, a strong base from which they are moving forward, and with a clear commitment to Elite Dangerous making their business successful in the foreseeable future. I doubt they would need another kickstarter with the business model they have developed.

Yea. SC is the elephant in the room here. Each 6 months they move the release date back half a year, while taking big money for not yet implemented spaceships.

In contrast, i basically am quite happy with ED. We got the game roughly on schedule. (I mean, just look how many years we already play. SC and ED were kick started merely months apart. ) The base game is good and even after all these years enjoyable. Yes, some of the additional content (PP, engineers) didn't meet my taste and expectations and if given the choice, i'd rework the first and completely dispose of the second. But it seems like some people like those things, too.

Sure, i play much less by now. But hey, show me any game which, after spending several hundreds of hours there, doesn't get a bit stale? So yes, after several years of playing, the game is in need of more and especially more diverse content. And i think it could use the support of a better story teller. (The technical side, except of the strange decission to go for P2P, is mostly solid, but many of the technical aspects are too barebone and could use some meat to them. )

But considering that FD apparently is working on new content, albeit still taking over a year to deliver it, i guess they understand the problem and are working on it. I sure wish things were faster, but i guess that's just how things are. We still will get our big second expansion before SC even is delivered. (In my eyes, the race by now is between the third expansion and SC, and things might not look too bad for ED there, either... :D )

That doesn't make any sense. I thought this game was ded? 🤔

Let the mental gymnastics commence!

It for sure isn't dead or even close to it. When they reach a stage where the shop is not funding the servers, then it'll be dead. The real question is what game or event would cause such a thing to happen?

For me, I got my value from my outlay. Do I think it was worth it? Yes! Do I think it is worth continuing to play? No. Do I recommend others to play it? Yes, with many caveats.

If fleet carriers come with some immersive content and don't cost an arm and a leg to buy and maintain, then I may retry it.

Oh dear...well, goodbye!

Btw, please would you all lay off your petty squabbles while derailing a pretty informative financial review thread.

Let's just agree that Elite is a successful, very pretty but ultimately a rather anodyne, poorly conceived & developed video game - there!

But then again, what do I know? I don't have a Beluga called Charlie that goes on "adventures". Meh!

We already got planetary landings and executive control of very large ships is coming this year. If the leak is correct we'll get space legs next year. That's most of the Kickstarter promises. As long as they don't abandon development we'll also get atmospheric planets at some point since it's just the logical next big thing.
They never made us believe that all this stuff would be available just after release.
It’s not what I’m saying

I am merely remarking the very slow pace of development
With the success of the game since release I thought the dev will accelerate somehow

Stupid of me, I will give you that

As said above, pace of development is pretty difficult to judge. I believe it didn't help that Planetary Landings launched just one year after release, which somehow created the expectation that atmoshperic planets and space legs would follow shortly after. In hindsight I realise that both expansions are way more complex and require more effort than landing on barren planets. Unless you want them to be really basic...

And many many months of work.

My point was, if all those things should have been in at release, like you said, then release would have been years later and we wouldn't have had all those years to play.

Also true
But I wish things were a bit faster, we got nice update sure, but not what we were expecting since 2014 ... at least not yet
