Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Must be why the phrase 'Lipstick on a pig' comes to mind :p
Yep, imagine having your PvP ship blown up by this, while I do reverskis dumping biowaste (manure) in front of you. Bad day! :D(y)

And all the fear about open and gankers seem slighty overrated. Today nobody has tried to interdict me, so I had to go to a Haz Rez (in open) to test my new toy. I've turned off "crimes against me", but I wont interdict anyone myself. Still I can highly recommend open, as long as your ego isn't too fragile. You wont win a lot of battles against some of the good PvP'ers. They are "skilled!" :)

Absolutely agree - I am now exclusively in Open, and am flying a Beluga (admittedly fully engineered/A rated etc) but have never been ganked once. I fly a mix of passengers and cargo so often look like a tasty target. I get plenty of NPC pirates, but no human gankers. And I am not in the back of beyond - I fly in and out of popular systems such as engineers with no issue.

Supercruising around Jameson Memorial in open will kill most of us sooner or later, but each time it has happened to me, I go "Aha!", and respawn at the station with an idea of how to avoid what had just happened the next time I end up in a similar situation. If I was an explorer returning to the Bubble after collecting data for a year, I think I would still go to solo for the last few jumps. It's as easy as relogging.

True enough, although I tend to play these games as close to Sim as I can, an attitude which is going to catch up with me one of these days. When outmatched by NPCs because I have foolishly stacked 'Elite' missions, I tend to drop the fighter and high tail it with a shout of 'full power to rear batteries (auto-target turrets) and rear shields!!'. Works on NPCs, but will doubtless bite me when a human Opener takes a dislike to me or a liking to my cargo. Still, as I am turned to spacedust I will take some small comfort from the fact that my space life just got 'real'.

Hmm. Interesting. I'm now on 107 ARX after a few steps on the r2r.

However, according to the scum who just interdicted me (with no provocation on my part I hasten to add, I'm just an innocent 'splorer, guv) I'm a useless dreg. And here I was thinking that "dregs" were something left at the bottom of a cup of tea from a proper tea-pot/strainer affair. Or were those "grouts"?

Yeah, I'm a useless grout. That sounds about right.

But then... "Grouty" was Mr. Big in "Porridge" wasn't he?

I think this game might be cheating me. After a couple of hours in game post-update, I've first-discovered every system I've been to, multitudes of planets scanned, and three or four TFWWs mapped and I haven't earned a single arx yet! Last thing before logging off last night I found a new pumpkin patch, scanned and updated to the Codex. I'll see if that was worth an arx when I log on later :(

I think you have to dock and sell data to get the Arx. While you are there, I can recommend testing the reactive surface composite, and if you don't like the look of it, selling it again ;)

I've just tried to look to see how much ARX would cost for real cash but the store is giving me a temporary page saying it's being revamped while logging on to the store directly is punching a 404 in my face. I think things need to settle a little :D

Wouldn't be surprised, but there's a thread on the subject which raises the prospect of hitting the weekly cap in your first 10 minutes back at a station; do we then carry data around for weeks to circumvent that? Doesn't bother me personally, but I can see the issue.

Intriguing... but I'm guessing it will be close to a month before I return from the black. If the 'intrigue' is still in effect I'll take a look (y)

That rumour doesn't hold water.I sold 70+ mill@ EA and i have 39 arx points. That includes 2 mill codex discoveries and an NSP.

Which has disappeared over night, although it still shows on the radar strip.

Well, that was last night.I just looked at it now,and i have the full 400.
The only thing i've done since then is salvage one wreck (about 20k,wine tobacco and appliances),so there may be something from that.
Spent a good while looking for the nsp with no luck. Then took a look at SAG A*.In the old days,i wouldn't have stood a chance.Got a bit to close and started heating up..and heating up...and heating up.I eventually .clawed my way out ,but it was touch and go if i would make it for a while.
Once clear,i was able to repair, but the damage was pretty heavy. Thrusters at just over 40% FSD below 70% and everything else pretty much shot from just the one encounter.Spent a shed load on repairs and integrity last night.Just glad i remembered to do integrity,or it would have been the end for me,i'm sure.
Back to EA to plan my next venture and check for the NSP hunt.
I can't see how they have gone?I mean,o.k.,the nsp's themselves may have gone, they're motile, but did they take the caltrops with them? And the proto lagrange point?
Well,it's a big universe, i suppose. Room for lots of mysteries.
