I used to play a game where I know a few people spent over ten grand (real-world money) on in-game currency. Thing is, it depends on 1) how much money you have to start with and 2) what else you have to spend it on. If you're on £250k a year and have relatively few hobbies, spending ten grand on a game probably isn't going to mean your kids are missing meals or your missus is dressed in rags, at which point it's a value judgement for the individual based on how much enjoyment they get from what they spend.
I mean I wouldn't do it myself but then I'm not in the position that I described above.
For me, all the money spent on digital content is wasted money, that's how I see it. It is clear that everyone spends what they want ,
I could even say that it benefits me that others spend more than me, but honestly, it saddens me too much.
