For those who Deliberately Did Not Sign the Open Letter/Petition - Why Not?

I did not sign the petition/open letter - deliberately.

For those people, like myself, who deliberately did not sign the recent petition to Frontier, I think there needs to be a forum for their reasons to be aired. Because those voices need to be heard also and are silenced by the louder voices.

Because one of the points I strongly did not agree with.

Please give your reasons if you deliberately did not sign. Or even if you did sign but some of the points you disagreed with.

Should have posted this, just assuming everyone knew about it :-( -> https://forums.frontier.co.uk/threads/video-open-letter-from-community-to-elite-dangerous.524656/

Because I just don't care to sign stuff started by certain groups of people. I do not wish to be associated with them in any way.
That is all I am going to say about it.

I did not sign

1 Not clear or concise on what the issues were.
2 They obviously have forgotten the results of the last test server/beta and the blowback whether it was from reset progression or the impression that fdev were asking for free employees and that they never listen.
3 The thinly veiled threat for repercussions if they were not listened to (probably directed at the players rather than at FDev)
4 iPetition
5 Any group that intends to represent the players should at least correspond with the people they supposedly represent.

My 2 arx worth, and its simple opionion so probably worth less than 2 arx.

There did seem to be some valid points made, by all accounts this patch was poorly implimented. So why not put my name on the petition, well in no particular order.

I didn't like the tone and how the open letter came accross as a bit pompous.
I can't help but feel FDEV are more likely to be clued up on the technical issues than the authors of the letter, so the letter maybe naive about the cost/benifit of a test server etc.
Laziness, alot of effort to go to over a buggy patch for a computer game.
Selfishness, I didn't experience a single bug, maybe that was just luck as I wasn't doing any of the buggy things but it made it hard to take the level of the reaction seriously.
There was also a signitory to the letter that experience has taught always has an agenda and I suspect would consider undermining the reputation of the game the ultimate 'gank'. If everyone belives the game is 'doomed' then no influx of new players, no revenue to invest and the plug gets pulled. (Yeah, I know pretty paranoid)
Honestly kinda I like that ED is a bit wonky, I'd rather the devs did their thing, as yes sometimes the wheel falls off but they have created one of my favourite games ever and I'd rather have that than a bug free always techically perfect game that I enjoy less.

Now I'm not saying those are the best reasons but they are mine.

because it's pointless signing anything aimed a company that just doesn't care.

I don't know any of the people involved personally. Sure Ive heard their names and I guess watched their you tube channels. But it'd be a stretch of my imagination to claim I wouldn't sign something because of who was involved. I'd like to think my reason for not signing (see above) was based on a solid understanding of the company involved, their lack of interest and their lack of competence.

You know you are talking about real people right, actual human beings?

Just echoing others in here:

The self-entitlement of those behind the petition was already pretty rampant, and the petition was just the wailing from them cranked up to 11. Also, the suggestions were mostly things already tried and found to not be working (open betas etc), and there were some ominous wordings around repercussions that I also didn't agree with.

So I didn't sign, and I've been put off watching material from those content creators as well now. Shame, really, as when you got past tone of language from some of them, the content at least used to be pretty decent.

:D S

There are some minor issues but it is still a fantastic game. The person who started the petition came across as a drama queen.

I played and loved the original Elite in the 80's. It is nothing compared to the current game but it was ahead of its time in the 80's. I didn't sign it because I see the beauty of the game and I'm sure the developers will fix the minor bugs.

For the following reason:-

1. I object to the word "Community" being used when most of the Community weren't consulted.
2. I actually think Frontier's communication is good enough. We do hear about things from Frontier when we need to. I really don't see any point in knowing what's coming (in Elite or any game) when the release date is more than 6 months away. Whenever I hear about a new game coming and it's a year away before release it actually annoys me.
3. I'm not sure a public beta for every update is a good idea. Whilst I do think there are lessons learnt for Frontier's QA department following the recent release, I think adding public betas for every update could end up costly for Frontier.
4. I am personally not affected by many bugs in the game (which could be the way I play) and to be honest the only update which has affected me is the September one and Frontier have been working hard to eliminate the bugs which were responsible.
5. Like others I don't trust the platform where the petition was hosted.

No doubt some people will disagree with some of my reasons but that is to be expected.

Even if I agreed with the tenets of the petition, online petitions do nothing. It's not called slacktivism for nothing.

That said--what leverage do you have? You've already paid for the game. There's no ongoing service fee. The best you do is refuse to buy arx, or refuse to buy the next expansion. Either of those could be expressed by simply refusing to play the game. They would definitely take notice if large numbers of players just dropped off and stayed off--but even that isn't guaranteed to get you the outcome you wish.

For the same reason I don't affiliate myself with any particular political party. I might agree with some of a party's platform, but not all of it. So I will continue to maintain my independent status as a voter and not put my name on something that I don't entirely agree with.

And honestly, I doubt the sincerity of some of the signatories, who I feel are out for their own notoriety and recognition and just want to feel important rather than actually see the game get better.
