At the risk of railing this silly thread (what is the opposite of derailing?) can I take this opportunity to once more plead with FD for a thread ignore option on these forums? It would solve this and so many similar problems for those of us who dislike certain types of thread but don't have the mental fortitude to manually ignore them without getting annoyed at their continued presence on the front pages.

Partial workaround: ignoring a poster also ignores all threads they start. You can always unignore them a week or so later if they otherwise post interesting stuff.

I don't normally like blocking individuals -- even the most annoying of people have good ideas among the noise -- but for serial thread-starters I guess I might be able to use this temporarily.

(Incidentally in temporarily testing this with one of the front page threads I discovered two other people in my ignore list that I don't recall putting there. Either I've had errant click syndrome at some point in the past, or I'm not as forgiving as I thought I was.)

Hmm, to clarify my thoughts: I'm OK with posting a video as the OP as long as it's not JUST a video. Those are annoying.

This is a forum, so I like a forums OP. I like videos too, but that's a dessert, not the main course.

As a rule, I never watch videos in OPs, for 3 reasons:

1: usually posted to farm hits
2: if it can’t be said in words then it doesn’t belong on a text-based forum
3: Youtube is a pox upon the Earth, almost as bad as Facebook imo

At this point, YouTube and twitch might be the only thing drawing new people to the game.
I don't see anyone abusing the system and posting loads of advertising threads, one a day here and there isn't going to hurt anyone is it.
I've found lots of good advice and interesting stuff via YouTube ED videos, and I enjoy watching them on a second monitor while I run about exploring
