I've been waiting to land on these planets since almost 5 years.
I also wish to fly above cities and I don't feel the need to walk through the streets. For me it would be enough landing at big starports and walking to the various facilities, maybe also to some panoramic spot.
Restricted area might work very well. Outside of the cities instead we should be able to land everywhere.
"...the orbit approach speed is good and I constantly check the HUD to verify that the ship keeps slowing down smoothly and that the approach angle is within the limits: landing on an atmospheric planet requires a bit more precision than landing on an airless world. Altimeter is on, I can see the transition level approaching. I quickly check the planet gravity, 0.90G, almost like Earth, I should not expect big troubles then.
Speed dropping and stabilizing at 2.5 km/s, "Glide Engage". The ship starts bouncing and the canopy is all yellow and red, it seems I'm flying thourh a star.
Once the atmospheric transition is over the flight is smooth again and the view is restored. I can see the dark sky getting brighter and brighter and all the stars fade away in the light blue.
"Atmospheric Flight Engage", I have full control of my ship again. I can see the big city approaching in front of me. It's all surrounded by a tropical forest that covers the totality of the emerged lands of this planet.
Flying through a couple of thin clouds I spot a big thunderstorm moving towards the city, but I'm faster, I should be able to land before its arrival.
I receive my landing authorization while overflying the city: "Sierrra Echo November clear to land, fly direct to landing pad 2, warning thunderstorm incoming".
Visibility is still good, I can already see my landing pad.
The landing is smooth... you really want a smooth landing when you are carrying 700 units of biowaste. Cleaning the mess is not a service provided by this starport.
The rain starts falling the moment I touch down. This time I was lucky."
