Full Throttle at Pareco - an official Frontier Developments race in conjunction with the Buckyball Racing Club

Ok then folks, race is over. :(

I've got a pile of new submissions to check through this morning (and 150+ new messages in Discord to read) plus I do also have to go to work today (boo!) so expect a final scoreboard around 1pm UK time.

In the meantime thanks to everyone who took part and, errr, next time I do one of these could someone remind me that doing a race where the average entry includes checking over a dozen screenshots is a TERRIBLE idea! 🤣

Thanks for doing this - I can't imagine how much work it has been!

One suggestion - if the entry form asked for your landing time at each station, you could use that to set up the tables - and maybe only actually check the top few at the end of the race (and maybe the odd random one?)

Less work for you, no real impact on the top of the leader boards, and honestly, I don't think folk would deliberately falsify if public humiliation was the potential result!

You could also insist on youtube videos of every submission and simply publish the link in the tables - so if any other participants disagree with the posted results it can be scrutinised...

Once again, though. Thanks - it's been a great experience!

Part of the reason for checking submissions carefully is not so much to catch out cheats but simply to spot honest mistakes (of which there have been a few). Even if people fly the route perfectly, some have put the wrong number of stops in the form (I appreciate the whole fence posts/panels thing with this race, and whether the final hop counts, have confused the issue). Making the form more complex (filling out times for each landing) may seem like a good idea but I think I would still feel duty bound to check they hadn't made mistakes which would actually be even more work. Generally our races don't require nearly this many screenshots so I have rather made a rod for my own back here, especially since this has been the most popular race we've had for ages - thanks Frontier! 😬:ROFLMAO:

You know what the best thing Frontier could do for racing would be (imho) - some kind of facility which made the job of the race organiser much easier (i.e. some kind of guaranteed recording of waypoints/time). And yes - I'm aware people have written plugins to do this (e.g. the thing that was used for that T9 canyon race or the timer that furrycat devised for the Lavecon race) but the problem there is that there are people who are VERY reluctant to go installing software (which, for all they know, could be harvesting personal data). I wouldn't necessarily want fully automated holographic scoreboards - I'm a big fan of player curated races - just look at all the fun we;ve had in this 'ere forum thread - but just same way to make the racer organiser's job a bit easier.

Anyway ... back to the scoreboard ... no, strike that ... coffee first and THEN more scoreboard.

We're very much about the fun - rather than hardcore competition - and improving our own and others' flying. So we've always tried to just trust each other as much as possible. At the end of the day, as long as you've 100% confidence that the podium places are valid, then the main thing is that everyone has full. You're only cheating yourself and all that. Especially for our normal races where no prizes are on offer. :)

Requiring screenshots and making video optional makes sure that everyone can join in. There's always a few runners who wouldn't be able to video their attempts.

The problem with relying on EDSM for seeing how many ships were destroyed, is that you are assuming that everyone syncs their data, or can sync their data with EDSM ;)

It's quite funny though. At the moment it shows 4 commanders passing through in the last day (no vipers?!) and 4 destroyed in the last 24 hours. So it's quite a deadly place to visit!

I only managed to do one run and I am having major problems uploading images to imgur. The process starts and then gets stuck and nothing happens. So far I have only managed to get 4 images successfully uploaded having tried for some time last night at past midnight and again this morning.

I've had trouble uploading to imgur at times.
You could share them with Alec using dropbox, onedrive, or google drive / photos, or similar.
The main thing is to make sure that it's easy to look though them in order - eg rename them 01.jpg, 02.jpg, etc.

You've converted the images to jpg or png haven't you?
The original raw BMP files are huge and imgur won't like them - it's never very happy when you upload the hi-res versions either.

Sooo, I tried again and again to better my initial time, but just got slower and slower - I also noticed that when I set my original time on Saturday things were nice and quiet (even when playing in open), but yesterday there was a lot more "large" NPC traffic around - enough to suppress the FSD charge for few seconds, which can't have helped. It got to the point where I gave up in my Viper and had a couple of runs in a Dolphin (nothing can beat the happiness of the boost 'squeal') - a good laugh, but a useless time! :)

Anyway, I guess you should just put my time down to beginners luck, but I'm really looking forward to the next challenge.

If there's anything I'm going to take away for next time, it's the fact that you don't have to repeatedly mash the 'Launch' button when you've landed - just press it the once and get on with plotting your next destination while the station decides when it's going to relaunch you.

Again, another big thank you to the organisers. See you next time!

Yes, I had converted them to jpg and then tried after resizing to make them smaller but still no joy. Imgur seems to have gone down hill in a similar way to Photobucket.

Thanks for the dropbox suggestion. I have done it that way so I hope it works and the submission gets there in time.

Hehe, yes it does feel a bit odd hitting it once and then forgetting about it. The delay on relaunching depends on how you land. You need to be settled on the pad and the docking clamps (which you can't see) are locked in, before the pad starts to turn.

During normal races you don't notice it as much because after pressing launch you go into the Galaxy Map, so by the time that's loaded and you've selected your next bookmark the landing pad is on it's way back up.

In this race pressing the launch button sometimes felt like being Ripley.

I have to partially correct myself on that zen thing, that was for the launch button, while for the boost "zen my Arx", I was definitely like Ripley there since my boost button is all but gone at this point. 😅
Hours and hours (and hours, and hours...and hours) of SRV boosting almost completely leveled that switch, for the Kumay expedition I resorted to swap the boost and handbrake buttons to compensate and move it to a less used function...and after all the boosting on Kumay, I'm now with two almost leveled switches, that happen to be the boost and jump to SC ones.

It's three days from my birthday and the lady is still in panic about what to gift me....mmh......

Stupid copyright.. blocked my final submission video. Having YT mute the song. Dunno if Alec got to see it last night before the blocked status. It will be back up with the song muted shortly.

Why YouTube hates Ozzy songs.. dunno... I accept demonetization, thats expect for these recordings but the block... c'mon... who wants to rip a song that has a bunch of engine boosting sounds over it?
