Seems Very Quiet Around Here

I've been gone, like completely gone, for some time now.
I've mostly been enjoying the sheer chaos of Just Cause 3. Pure, pointless, destruction. Yay! I spent an odd amount of time playing a game with basically no plot.
Anyhoo, I'm slowly getting that itch for ED, so I've started venturing back here, and on my discord channels.
But it's very very quiet now. Did something happen? Do we all talk somewhere else? Or is it just that "mid term" lull we get between updates?
How is the game? Is that quiet too, or just here?

It's not a Dooooooom! thread BTW, just an observation. Maybe I was the one making all the traffic...😁

/r/EliteDangerous Reddit traffic is good for a low-news period:

OP.
Good to see you back. I think a lot of us that have been around a while are on a break from the forums and the game until next year.

I've not played Elite since I reached Sag A* on DW2. How long has that been? Several months? I've lost track as I've been playing other stuff.

I'm sure a lot of us will be back when the new DLC drops next year.

That was in the end of April, IIRC. I'm semi-active in Elite, building my credit account up to 5B (or 10B if I really have nothing better to do) so as to have plenty of money for when fleet carriers arrive next year.

Most of the open letter people left after seeing the fruits of their labor (fleet carriers delayed)
I could care less about fleet carriers, but I do care whether Frontier can keep schedules. Two massive delays on a relatively minor and useless sideshow item is a very very bad vibe to send out to people who were hoping that the "big 2020" update would arrive before 2030, and for a lot of people I know, waiting till 2020 was already a bridge too far. This company can't even add an in-game cosmetics store without blowing up the fragile base code and knocking out several core game elements. How in the world can the current team push out a functioning version of something as complex as space legs, atmospheres, or base building? Frankly, I just don't see it.

The other thing you may notice is that Galnet is a lot lot quieter .... it is now only posting for genuine in-game stuff, instead of make-believe-confuse-the-players fluff.

If they release things slightly buggy there's a meltdown. If they delay stuff to avoid slightly buggy releases there's a meltdown. If they release a season in advance there's a meltdown. If they prepare a season behind closed doors to release in one there's a meltdown. Announce anything there's a meltdown. Don't announce anything there's a meltdown.

Anyone else starting to see a pattern ?.

No wonder they don't bother wasting their time talking to us anymore.

The decisions Frontier are making, are leading to disengagement.

The days of Braben and Brookes and Dav and Ed and Zac are done.

Will and Dav are alright, but Brett C and Braben are not engaged anymore, Paige doesn’t seem to get what’s going on and just does what she’s told. I never really understood what that social media personality with all the tatts was doing. The narrative lead is an awful gatekeeper, I think it’s just a day job for him these days.
The code has gotten unwieldy, and both bugs and workarounds re-appear during minor patches.

There’s still a lot of potential - we see elements from their other games that we hope can come in.
The creatures from Planet Zoo and Jurassic World, the base building from Planet Coaster and Jurassic.

But we’re not seeing that in game.

I think ELITE became very content dependent; where it should have relied more on inter group and inter player rivalry. That would have been better for maintenance mode.
With PowerPlay untended, BGS nerfed, and no support or publicity for groups; the only excitement comes with new content. All the work has to be done by Frontier and it’s just not enough. Maybe it could never be enough.

They don’t trust players with their precious product, but they can’t keep up the pace of change, so the whole thing is withering on the vine.

HR would have something to do with it. Poor quality hires.
We need a few more rock stars.
Even Zac (who made some awful awful decisions) was a presence. These days it feels like everything is run past a committee.
