Time to abandon it

There's a lot of people on this page who seem to be interested in trying to reason with a barking dog on the other side of a fence. You can present a reasonable argument but it's just going to bark continually.
The trick is to present the reasonable argument as a stick.

@Burke, I think you're interpreting over the top ambitiousness as evil intent.

Did they profit from it? Make any sales based on big things... big exciting things that are coming soon? Well call me mr suspicious :)
The logic there is: it's one big scam, because they profited from it.
The assumption is: ice planets and fleet carriers are never coming.
The base for the assumption is: being cynical (or suspicious).

But in order for me to see evil intent, I need a little more than that. :)

Never attribute to evil intent that which can be adequately explained by incompetence.

I feel over the top ambition is a derivative of incompetence.

Ok then. Im open minded. Show me one particle of evidence that carriers ever existed. Even if its an unskinned frame. Anything. They worked on it for so long there must be something. My words would be totally discredited if they showed the community the work done so far... surely it must be close to beta level? There must be something to show....

Edit: Same for ice planets, show me something.. a single texture. Something that isnt a hype train youtube.

That's not how it works I'm afraid. You started this with the claim this is a scam, without any evidence to show for it is, besides you being cynical.

Now, I'm not even making a claim. I'm saying I doubt Frontier's motivation is evil intent.

So, to do this in the right order: what kind of evidence do you have that Frontier never worked on ice Planets or Fleet Carriers?

Because if you haven't got any, all we have is: "I think it's a scam" vs "Hmm, I doubt it"

None. In a court of law i couldnt prove intent. I couldnt prove that anybody knew they were stringing people along. It just really looks that way. Cmon, just show the evidence and im discredited and frontier win. Run a carrer beta where the players understand that it doesnt work but it will sooth the community.

Na its really obvious really, right infront of your eyes. The only thing that might make it hard to accept is your faith in frontier.

Its a video game not a religion. I like the game, and I enjoy the products FDEV make faith just doesn't enter into it. I'm not a believer in the one true game (or your conspiracies).

Stuff just happens, and the sort of people who get very upset about video games will always be very upset about video games.

That's a long winded way of saying you made it all up.

I'm not in it to discredit you. I'm just making the point, that for me a more likely conclusion is the task of creating Ice Planets even close to what they showed, or the mechanisms of Fleet Carriers turned out way more complex than they had foreseen.

What does stand out to me is, you need no evidence to draw your conclusion this is all a scam. But to change that conclusion you need evidence from me.

And Frontier running a beta just to show the community it doesn't work is something no company would do.

Well, its like i said. People need to manage their expectations. Its gonna be epic if nothing turns up in 2020.

I'm not in it to discredit you.

I know and its most certainly not perosnally aimed at you. But if im being told im wrong and its a conspiricy i invite people to try. Thats how certain i am of what im saying... bring it on. All the names iv been called.. now have a go at my argument :)

The evidence. When they got nothing to show, thats my evidence.

Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence.

As an example we are both familiar with: before they introduced the FSS on the livestream, we were completely in the dark about the existence of the FSS. We know more about the ice planets and fleet carriers.

Wasn't there a Fleet Carrier teaser by the way?

You want to see something, but you don't want to see it on YouTube? Wat!?

Here's all the evidence you need. These are more than just unskinned wireframes. They have to have existed to even be in the video.

You already know in your heart that it wont be. Perhaps im overly cynical but i see the entire thing as one big scam. I dont think ice planets were ever coming, infact in the hype shots where you couldnt quite tell if it was meant to be art or the real thing, i always thought the ice textures looked stolen from a below zero concept anyway. But yeah no ice. Probably wasnt even worked on past those few pictures.

Carriers... how many people seriously beleive that frontier really planned to release carriers? Or if they did that nobody knew until right before release that they wernt coming? Prove to me that there was anything more than a false ad campaign that got some space in the usual gaming publications. Put the game on sale, wring out a few more mugs. That is the MO isnt it? Live off the churn, cater to the newer player. Existing players can adapt or leave?

Anyway. Roll on 2020 :)

The use of "scam" here seems a bit of a gratuitous and unnecessary hiperbole. The New Era simply can not be a scam (at least not yet at any rate) because it has not even been sold (or even described) to the public yet. With regards to ice planets or carriers, those are very specific game features that were offered for free, as part of a much larger also free update, and no one has paid money for them. May I suggest you at least wait until those products are charged for to the general public before you even consider any kind of "scam"?
