Question about the strange names of the pirates.

As part of the Kickstarter we could 'name an NPC' and the individual first and last names would be pooled together to form other names. So there is an NPC called Helen Lister (my name) which has been seen and often killed many times. There will probably also some called Helen [something] and [something] Lister.

NPC ship pilots use a different naming system than NPC station personnel and crew. Station crew names are assembled from two separate lists of first-names and surnames. NPC ship captain names are a single list. So there will be (and I think I've seen her) a "Helen Lister", but that name won't be pulled apart and recycled into "Helen Skywalker" or "Boris Lister". If there are other Listers, they've also been added as whole names.

I think the question of whether the pool of names is further categorised by NPC type or just random is a good one to ask. I realised as soon as I read it that I don't know the answer ;)

I don't know if they're completely separate lists, but there is certainly a bias for certain names to appear as certain roles.

Civilian NPCs like traders and miners tend to have "normal looking" names, like Helen Lister or Neil Armstrong. Silly "gamer handle" names like xXxShipKillaxXx or vrooooooooom tend to be given to pirates and bounty-hunters.

I've seen some names that were references to other media too. It was years ago and I can't remember them sadly :V

Why do I have to shoot a pirate in the game, which bears the name of the world's first female astronaut – Valentina Tereshkova?
So all the girls named Valentina Tereshkova, or boys named Neil Armstrong should change them? The Scot Glenn i worked with was not allowed to drive trucks? Lot of people in the galaxy and only so many names bound to be a few with the same name

Well I'm going by the original Kickstarter statement:
£40 - Your name* forms part of the naming database (so your name will be one of those used randomly for non-player in-game characters), plus all rewards above.

I have seen some interestingly named NPC's in my travels through the galaxy including Cornholio, Jimi Hendrix and Mrs Trellis of North Wales. I have a screenshot folder specifically for such interesting names.

I submitted Teeka Daneun (an homage to my Great Dane at the time, since passed) into the pool during the Kickstarter but sadly I have never run across that name in the game.

A couple of years back I had Robin Hood interdict me, as he was after my "Tasty Cargo".. I wonder how he's now getting on in the afterlife...
He came for me on Saturday with the same cheesy line and same outcome.
Even ghosts don't get the message first time!

Has anyone met Grzegorz Brzeczyszczykiewicz? He and I have a history :D
that name is a tongue twister from Polish comedy How I Unleashed World War II, watch this clip you will get it

When I was still a child I watched this film 5 times. Great Comedy!

I saw an NPC called "PC-Cheaters" or something close to that. At least Frontier acknowledges there may be a problem, LOL!

More likely a salty console gamer. :p

Had an assasinate known pirate Karl Marx wing mission...
well, he certainly did kill a lot of people. I couldn't take it though, didn't have a ship capable of killing the stupid strong wing assasination targets yet

I just found a miner name Gary Whitta. I went to the movies with him and my best bud once, now he's like movie-famous.

Some people could have submitted names such as Neil Armstrong etc too, which would also go into the pool.
That's too cool to have your name in there! You deserve a Station name! o7
