My favourite comment from that thread...

... we just want transparency.

Good news, CIG is announcing a new semi-transparent skin for the Carrack, only $50.

I like this one...

Agreed, but what we're seeing from CIG right now looks to me like a marketing / PR department in damage control mode, and that's the opposite of transparency.

I mean, they are only just twigging onto this? After years of pretending marketing is transparency? CIG only show you what they want you to see. Sometimes its negative stuff, like how something didn't work out, but its all in the name of marketing, telling the narriative they want you to hear. The negative stuff sets up backers to be prepared for delays and bad news, but because CIG have "explained" why its so hard to them, they are all now expect project managers and software developers, and they can nod wisely and agree when something needs to be "no go".

Thus CIG sell them on the reasons for the delays as being essential for the future good of Star Citizen.

Its not even that CIG are particuarly lying or misleading backers here. But how they tell the story sets backers up to believe everything CIG say, unless they do indeed know about project management and software development, and i suspect most of those people who did back the game refunded a long time ago when they saw what was going on, or simply have realistic expectations of what can happen here.

Reminds me some time ago after reading some really absurd statements from a backer about CIG's project management techniques where they defended them to the hilt. If he really was a project manager like he claimed to be, i shudder to think how mismanaged his own projects must be.

Hah, also from that thread:

Elite is what Star Citizen would have looked like if it had a publisher. Still waiting on carriers and not able to walk around, but pretending the game is finished.

Someone want to tell them that ED is self-published, just like SC is planned to be (minus whatever strings Calder are holding)?

So if they are saying ED is bad because of publisher (or lack thereof), it means SC is also going to be bad. :p

Not really. There are lot of area covered by cities, but they're (mostly empty) set dressing, not “fully realised.” Think Deus Ex without the myriad of locations and NPCs.
Actually that is ok, as long as it give you the impression of a city you could visit. I always said that it’s the clever designers that get the good games done in a way where you think it’s all open for the player.

remember bandicote on PS 1? That level design was really clever, how they used the memory and GPU was awesome.

most developers today are lazy or simply incompetent to make clever level designs.
When I say a level it could be landscape, city, planet whatever.

Can anything beat this level of details?Credits to the Asobo Studio that develop this game and their own engine for it......

Damn...Imagine If Microsoft decide one day to go into the"space"......If that day ever comes I bet that SC will still be in their Pre-Alpha phase 😜...

Yeah, the graphics are pretty sweet. Very fidelitious.

There again, it shows its possible for publishers to ship games once CR is taken out of the picture.

You think this is still possible for Star Citizen....maybe even with massive reductions of scope? Or has CRoberts developed the project into suich a deep corner that it wont be possible to resemble what was promised? Of course not asking the question WHY anybody should step in at this point?

Sure its possible. They already sold 10% of the company. Once he sells another 40% he can be given the boot.

There is still a viable whale market that can be further milked by actually shipping a product and then monetizing the hell out of it.

They just need to make sure after they have booted CR they still proclaim loudly "A Chris Roberts game" on the marketing materials and give him "special thanks" in the credits.

The roadmap is still impressively static for both the PU and SQ42.. Looks like most of their manpower is diverted to their battelfield-clone.

But... but... once the court case is settled CIG will reveal all the progress they have been keeping hidden from Crytek and the court and everything will be fine!
