What 2020 Update "Red Flags" would concern you?

To be honest, nothing the Game does in the next months concerns me anymore.

Looking around the globe, my assessment is that we have much (!) bigger problems to be concerned about than a Computer Game.
I guess you mean global warming rather than the cold?

But isnt worrying about virtual spaceships a one way of dealing with global world problems that most of us cant do anything about? I cant do anything about whats going on, let me worry about my jpeg ship - feels much better!

More to the point - HAVE they said tehy are dropping VR support?

No not specifically..... However they have come out and said they have nothing to say about supporting the newer headsets offically, and on top of that David Braben did pretty much say he didnt think VR was good enough yet to be worth while (I cant remember exact wording but at the time it sent massive alarm bells ringing for possibly planting the seeds for distancing themselves from VR).

I look at the Mac-lads and it really would not be that much of a surprise to me if VR users were not the 2020 updates equivalent to Mac users.

The way I see it, FD could end all the speculation with a simple official statement that, whilst not being prepared to announce anything about 2020 features, that VR support is still a key feature and is going no where.

The fact that FD are radio silent on it to me hints that at the very least continued full VR support is still up in the air, at worst, already decided to be dropped / or at least further support not added. I cant see any upside at all to not putting vr users minds at ease.

I've been thinking about the future of VR support in Elite, and as it stands, short of a ground up blank sourcecode rewrite, there is no reason to not include VR in 2020 and beyond, as its essentially been baked into the game since Beta. I don't think there is that much work for them to do to include future headsets, as by hitting steam's VR API, initially developed for the HTC Vive, they can capture 99% of headsets that way, including oculus ones where the game hits steam VR and steam liaises with the Oculus engine.

If they do remove it from the game, apart from losing a lot of long term fans such as myself, it would be a damned stupid backwards step, why remove a feature that has been in game since the start, and for whcih the technology for the hardware used to run that feature is getting better with time. Because the hardware isn't good enough? But current headsets are streets ahead of the DK1 & DK2 they initially installed the support ofr, and they are also getting better with each generation, and the graphics cards are increasing in performance to enable things like the 4k HP Reverb, or the 5k or even 8k Pimax headsets, wonder what this years 3080ti will be like for performance?

FDev dropping VR now, or worse still, in the future would be like having a long term relationship with a frumpy slightly overweight woman, only to dump her when she got in shape and became very shapely and attractive.

What FD positively confirmed recently is that they will not support new headsets beyond the current platforms,

Ouch! Where did they say that?

At one point, Paige said that FDs commitment to the game is unchanged. Which can mean anything IMHO

Probably just means she didn't see the news about Galnet, Community Goals and Interstellar Initiatives being chopped.

VR support is absent from recent additions such as FSS.

I think they won't go to the work of removing the existing VR support. But won't go to the work of continuing the VR support to new features and new headsets.

FSS works in VR, there is / are some glitches with it but it does support VR, may not be optimised for it, but technically neither is system map.

"We're excited to announce that a large part of the 2020 update is the ability to further tailor your game experience by opting in or out of player-on-player damage— in all modes! We feel that this maximizes fun, cooperation, and flexibility while accommodating all playstyles!"

Barf.

Specifically business practices. I don't think most people have problems with selling paintjobs and cosmetics, other than the price hike when ARX was introduced. This isn't an ARX post though.

The question is, what design/monetization decisions, if any, are you worried about or would concern you if added? If leaks are to be believed, there may be a huge amount of new cosmetics added to the game.

Selling ships for hundreds of $$$.

So basically a PvE/PvP slider! I'd love that. Would be so funny to sit there in front of a ganker laughing as they impotently try to kill you.

Make Open Great Again! MOGA!

Add a PvP/PvE slider!
