Actually.... As has been discussed many times by people who use correct CaPiTaLiSaTiOn of letters, and good grammar, an Imperial Slave has a better quality of life than the average federal citizen. Imperial Slaves are not held against their will, forced into slavery, they are volunteers who have accrued debts they cannot otherwise pay off, failed business etc, and are working off their debts. After their debt is satisfied, they are free to go back to their normal lives.

“Since being set free outside Port Isabelle, the former slaves have been without food, shelter or income. Many complain that they cannot return home without completing their indentured servitude to pay off debts or fulfil contracts.”
“In desperation, thousands of newly homeless have poured into the city. Many public buildings, such as the Imperial Museum of Culture, have been turned into makeshift camps, with large numbers also begging on the streets.”
“Police and support services are struggling to cope with the unexpected influx of immigrants. Already there have been several clashes between citizens and the emancipated, and such incidents are likely to escalate until a solution is found.”

The anti-slavery charity Unchain has officially purchased the 4,000 Imperial slaves who were forcibly freed on Eotienses A 3.
Princess Aisling Duval, the charity’s patron, gave the following statement to the press:
“The contracts of all those liberated against their will have been acquired by Unchain. They will be properly cared for while they work to build a new Unchain headquarters in Port Isabelle. This will allow them to pay off their debts and become free citizens once more.”
When pressed further by journalists, Princess Aisling offered a wry smile along with her explanation:
“I’m well aware of the irony of an anti-slavery organisation hiring Imperial slaves. We do this only to prevent further suffering at Port Isabelle and undo some of the damage caused by Autonomy. Allow me to specify that this is a practical solution to a problem of the Empire’s own making.”
“The indentured servitude system may seem honourable, but – as recent events prove – it leaves people vulnerable to abuse and neglect. Unchain remains dedicated to replacing the barbaric practice of slavery with more civilised welfare and employment programmes.”

"Imperial slavery" is the empires way of dealing with personal bankruptcy, we don't have "Individual Voluntry Agreements" (england) or "Trust Deeds"(Scotland) or "Debt Management Plans" or Chapter 7 or Chapter 13 Bankruptcies (America). In the empire, if one of our citizens goes bust, they enlist as a "slave" and work off the debt, they have legally defined rights and conditions, which offer a reasonably quality of life. However, like any civilisation, there will be those who exploit/abuse their slaves, much like there will be abusive bosses within other organisation.

ED itself tricks you into slow moral decay whatever you do really- nearly everything is a result of something bad happening to someone else. The Empire is bad from a certain POV but then again the same is true visa versa. All Powers and Superpowers have appealing ideals that on close inspection are not as shiny as you think they are- for example you can be a corporate slave just as being a material one.

As a counter example: The Kumo and The King™ Archon Delaine are 'bad' right? But, Delaine runs the ultimate meritocracy in that its the survival of the fittest- that slave can become whatever it wants if it has the guile to do so.

That's alotta hoopla coming from an Imperial. If you're so smart why they called slaves ? Why not something more fluffy and sugar coated !?

This was called Indentured Servitude about 300 years ago. The reality didn't turn out to be as good as the brochure made it out to be. In fact, the Empire's rational is almost verbatim that of the American Confederacy.
