Open Gun-ports = open for pvp : Pilots federations rule of the duel

The way the game is designed Open is a free for all which is why I'm not there. I may not like the way it is but I accept it because the gamedesign has give me a way to avoid the parts I don't like. If that hadn't been the case I wouldn't have bought the game.
This is exactly what most open proponents trying to explain then these type of threats pop up. Choose the mode which aligns most with your play-style and don't try to change the other modes. If somebody want's to have an open PvE mode take it up with FDev, but they already said they won't do it as it would be to hard(money?) to police.
FDev gave us 3 modes to choose from and this caters to a wide variety of players and play-styles. There are some small perceived problems with it, but that's how the game is setup. Best is to enjoy the game with what we got and if that is not enough or the right fit for somebodies play-style or expectations it's best for that person to pick up a different game which fits better.

If you're innocently ignorant I'll be happy to educate you.

A gank is like a good teasing joke. Sure, it's at your expense but we're laughing with you not at you.

Obstinate protests about what is or isn't proper behavior, especially when they have no teeth beyond draconian shame, are what I and so many other have little patience for.

Exactly, what you are doing is NOT playing the game, you disrespect the game and it’s player base with this Juvenile joke which you defend as “part of the game”.

I can assure you only a Limited few find entertaining.
No one else Is laughing. But we’ve tolerated this nonsense for long enough.
Many are upset by your jokes as they loose progress. Sometimes days, weeks even months of progress.

People Play in open for player the challenge of adverserial combat and player collaboration.

Your joke is not Adversarial challenge or
player verses player because that would mean the people You target had a chance, where as
Your joke is to harass, overwhelm
And ruin someone playing a game and imposing your joke,
Your playing style
your game onto them,
Disrespecting the game and the community by Bullying and someone’s game away from them.
And then laughing that they picked the wrong mode.

Pick the right mode? Damn right I do.
I play in open. I don’t cheat. I don’t combat log.

Because sometimes, you pick the wrong target -
ME.

I do not need an op-ship or wing of OP ships to remove challenge.

I’ve been ganked by likes of you in my little adder and I have the pleasure of ruinning your night by just being a better class of pilot where all your supposed might, power, is revealed to be the pathetic joke that you really are.

As ever, I’ll see you out in the black.

Writing one's reply in song lyric form and then ending your screed about how terrible it is to "ruin" someone else's gameplay by smugly claiming that you're ruining someone else's gameplay is such an odd paradigm.

You're too kind, But insults aside:
It wasn't an insult, it's an observation of your behaviour. I went back to find one of your previous statements, and I got it in your very first post. I'm certain there are plenty more but I'm not going to go over them all.

So just explain to me why you think it's so important you get to impose your play-style onto others whether they like it or not because honestly I do not understand why you are so important you get to dictate the rules of engagement...
...do NOT complain about the effects my actions have on (...) and most definitely do NOT deny me the right to do to (...) whatever the hell pleases me!

Just because you lot managed to get developer support for emergent gameplay does not mean you have sole ownership of it.
First quote, you want us to justify why we should get to dictate the rules of engagement.
Second quote, you demand you should be allowed to do whatever you want.

Those are against others doing whatever they want, but are for you doing whatever you want, which make you a hypocrite. I suppose unless you think -you- are so important that you actually get to decide for other people. Then you're a narcissist. Again, these aren't insults, that's just laying out facts, in this case how you feel, that you have presented us with.

You mean like some SPEAR of justice?

Beyond that. Beyond everything.

Anyone and everyone who hates gankers just turn round, learn and smack the sharks in the face, team up and like some avenging tidal wave rip them apart. If that can't be done, learn how to evade. Less of the "butbutbutbut" mentality- there is eleventy billion pages of advice, read it all. Put down the FSS and the Asimov and pick up the basic flight manual and learn it. Develop core skills and empower yourself, you'll come out smelling minty fresh, taller, a six pack* and confidence. No need for funny handshakes when you can deal with the situation given and enjoy truly unpredictable gaming.

If most people made ganking harder rather than rolling over, I believe it could make these forums and the game a better place.

*May not actually happen. Six pack might be toilet roll

All it would take is 2,000 elite Anacondas to emerge from PG, really.

  • When I play ED I play a nice pleasant cmdr.
  • I don't attack other strangers. I play "nice guy".
  • I switch between Open and Solo depending on certain activities and my frame of mind for the day.
  • I can kinda defend myself, but big picture I suck at combat.
  • I don't like being interdicted. NPC or other players.
  • I don't like gankers. I don't like getting surprise attacked. I don't like getting blown up.

BUT... without the big meanies, the gankers, the interdictions, and various unexpected things that I don't like... this game would suck. It is the fear of being attacked by someone better than me that makes me want to become a better player, get a better ship, learn to fly better, defend myself, avoid mischief, and able to fight back.

If there weren't NPC pirates and the constant fear of being attacked by other players better than me this game would be awful. Might as well play a Disney app. I am thankful for the big meanies out there. I hate them, they are villains. But they make the game worth playing.

Most ganking is low quality spoon stuff that feeds on panic. By propagating skilled responses (even if everyone took Rinzlers guide to heart) I bet you'd cut down the wailing and rending of garments by half or more.

Ah dang, I was hoping you'd pick up on the reference.

"WE HAVE 2,000 ELITE ANACONDAS WAITING FOR YOU IN PG!!" was one of the more hilarious reactions to the Distant Ganks 2 expedition.

But I agree that the solution— in life and in gaming— is to git gud, even if all you're getting better at is evading attacks. Sadly, said mentality is lacking in too many commanders who feel entitled to an adversity-free open experience.

I said I fly an Adder, so it's fun to see a wing of gankers gloat during interdiction thinking they will utterly destroy a starter ship
Basically I'm cat-fishing, when engineered properly, and kept light, the Adder is the 3rd fastest ship in the game,
and I'm barely in their instance in normal space because I'm already 5km away by the second boost, 7km by the third.
So I sometimes tend to drop some chaffs, do a u-turn boost past them in the opposite direction, then jump out.

Then they interdict me, again, and again, thinking they might get a lucky shot. Some-do, Harry potter being one of them when I asked him for a duel, as to be honest, I'm not that good a pilot ;)
Sometimes, I get caught of-guard, and I'm weighted down with some swag or opted to toss on some weapons/ armour, or still have an SRV from a scanning mission, which does drop the Adders speed down significantly to the engineered speeds of an FDL, (as one FDL Ganker taught me about 4 nights back, but not quite as slow as an Engineered FDL.
I could do it an iCourier or an iEagle, but they know what's to expect, people overlook the Adder because its a starter ship, with no hope of being one of the fastest ships in the galaxy, with a few special modifications of course.

“All the world will be your enemy, Prince with a Thousand Enemies, and whenever they catch you, they will kill you. But first they must catch you, digger, listener, runner, prince with the swift warning. Be cunning and full of tricks and your people shall never be destroyed.

But here is the rub,
I'm sure more people would politely enjoy the spice of the open life; enjoy an interdiction, enjoy loosing at combat,
if asked politely and mutual respect as gamers given, so quarter was to be assured and given if it was to be asked for.
so you wouldn't have to lose months of exploration data or precious cargo, from someone who thinks your grief is fuel for their humour because this game, and the effort we put in, is as they point out - a joke. And it stops us from enjoying it.

Opening gun ports as or closing them as a sign of submission, doesn't NEED to be law,
but a polite rule of thumb,
And we create some trust in other pilots, building a community of commanders who don't feel the need to leg it whenever they see another commander on their scopes.
Or just blasting away hoping to do damage so they can leg it before the open person can open the chat to say "o7, nice night, fancy winging up to ......"

I've heard PvP pirates complain about gankers, because of this evasive environment the gankers have created, as soon as the player pirates have successfully interdicted another player, they are FORCED to attack like crazy, to keep the other player from jumping out, and THEN they get to ask "stand or deliver"
As soon as the booty is dropped, they are left alone to lick their wounds.

So there are far more sides of this game that get damaged by the Gankers, who have little respect for the game and the gamers they abuse, as it is just a joke to them.

I don't know why you write in huge letters, but it's getting out of hands.

That whole asking for permission and what not doesn't make any sense with regards to the Elite universe. It's a cutthroat galaxy, at least according to the lore. I trust CMDRs the same way I trust npcs, not at all, they are all after my precious Elite rank, I'm telling you. Just today I found out that some npc pirates are not pirates at all but just ordinary gankers. Can you believe that?! Fdev put npc gankers in the game. Where is the outrage about that?

That whole etiquette thing of yours is just weird, some like to role-play criminals and outlaws in this game and FDev allow it. In which universe do criminals ask first or respect the secret handshake for hostile interactions? It's a little naive to say the least.

I have more positive interactions with other players than hostile ones. Same way how I play the game, sometimes I wing up with strangers and we have some fun and other times I pew-pew them without asking first. You pretty save in your adder from me, that's one of the ships I wouldn't interdict, same as any other "newbie" ship or explorers. Miners and traders maybe to see if I can get 1t of cargo to pay for food, the kids are always hungry. Anything that can pew-pew back is fair game.

And to your last sentence, FDev did more to damage ED then any player or player group can ever do.

Now stop using that huge letters or are you trying to gank mobile users? If yes a big +1 from me.
