I made a quick trip up there to participate in some conversations, but the new enthusiasm for talking with people in DD had lasted approximately three minutes before I left again. :)
I think I will be looking forward to this in private or with you guys here.

I came to a similar conclusion. I think that my take on it all is similar to yours, too - I have zero interest in legs, but the atmospheres sound cool. Will make the explorer life (even) more interesting.

I read the hastily put together email Frontier sent last night after all this emerged yesterday, and my enthusiasm waned somewhat due to the overwhelmingly FPS type nature of what they were punting. I quite like the idea of walking around a planet or my ship, but I'm not interested in local pitched battles with "people", whether they be NPCs or not.

I do, however, like the planet landscape and the hint that atmospheres will be included, so I await developments to see what they've put in to the rest of the game. I shall be a little ticked off if ice-planets got moved solely into the new era, given that they were supposed to be part of Horizons, but oh well.

Furthermore, I can't shake the thought that their new logo looks just like Batman.

Agreed - the FPS element made me a little sad, I hope that they're not trying to become something the game is not.

I was actually surprised at how lenient the grind was. 13 round-trips Mainani-Ngalinn was sufficient to go from low-% Duke to King while just taking courier missions and just a couple of donation missions at the very end. I expected more as I have done much worse grinds in Elite.

I hit my 8 billion target yesterday, so I can relax now, lol. Maybe I'll go stretch my space legs.

Honestly, I'm still rather disappointed with what Carriers turned out to be.

On the other hand, having one will give me some stuff to do, which is why I'm going for it.

I have to do something until 2021, right? :)

Nice camouflage to avoid pirates, but beware of other miners trying to prospect you. ;)

Still not over the drag racer sound the Courier has, but my god if the Type 9 doesn't have the best view from the cockpit. I can imagine myself sitting in one, gliding just above the surface of some distant world.

I wish I could rip out the cockpit of a Type 9 and smack it on an Imperial Courier. I don't care how that would look, it would totally make my endgame.

I'm now beginning to convert my Fleet into Carrier Support Vessels.

After close review, I realized I initially underestimated the amount of retrofitting and re-engineering needed.
While not all of the 41 Ships are affected, quite alot are. Existing Passenger and SAR Ships will be retained unmodified but mothballed during the Carrier campaign.
That still leaves quite some work.

Imagine this tiny guy being a fully capable Carrier Scout Vessel in Deep Space, equipped with LongRange Sensors, 6km Weapons Range... and capable to reach over 700m/sec should it ever have to :D

That's how I'll approach many Ships that formerly had little use.
They might look innocent - but they'll hold a few surprises and get the job done under any conditions. Should be fun ;)

Well... lessee. I'm now about 700m short of affording a bare bones carrier but I still doubt whether I'll get one - or, even, do I want one? Not sure on that.

As for Odyssey, it does look drool-worthy but I'll be opting out of the Unreal/Quake/Doom/Far Cry/Wolfenstein*-esque type gameplay if that arrives with the expac. However, I would like legs to explore planets - and my ship, especially on my Sploraconda coz the dirties in the washing-up sink really need seeing to and that WC? No comment. That requires an NPC crew member to sort out - I'm not touching it.

... I had eggs for breakfast.

... And some keema peas I made last month that I thawed out for my dinner

Volatile melange. The spice must flow. Or perhaps, in this case, not.

Aaaanyway, Susan Sto Helit (as I've renamed her) is now sitting pretty, ready for the morrow when I hope to get a few more credits - just because I can. She likes her new clothes, too.
