Braben also said this...

so by that logic.... Walking around your ships is now confirmed?
Actually that just means Braben just hasn't been watching how the sausage has been made for quite awhile since that's exactly what happened. :ROFLMAO:

Well just from past experience its probably informally confirmed it won't be at launch (just like vr?).

Unlike vr it doesn't seem impossible, so realistically it will probably come afterwards as a part b or new paid addon. Going by newsletter 29 there's a strong implication they're going to be doing ships and eva.. and equally as strongly from the comms so far it won't be with the first odysee release.

Frontier aren't that flirty or creative, i don't think they're just going to sneak it in either.

Having said, we're getting the long missing ice planets, so that's a plus.

I think OP needs to remember that right now there are a lot of clipping issues in cockpits, and even missing textures/bits that just don't meet up properly.

Cobra Mk III literally has a hole in the roof that you can see space dust pass by because the meshes aren't joined properly.

I don't think interiors are anywhere close to ready.

And the thing is that unlike the planets, these things will have to be handcrafted. It's also going to be very important to consider modules equipped. I am of the opinion that a lot of modules spaces simply won't be visible. Or at best, have detail restrictions.

For example the passenger cabins, I imagine would have "privacy screens" so that you can't go speak to your clients, but the cabin module would physically change space, perhaps... If that is how it is pursued.

This is all assuming, of course, if ship interiors ever materialise which as already said, is neither confirmed to be happening or not happening.

Although as a rule I don't assume something is coming until it is installed on my system by the latest patch. Even then...

There's no gameplay in walking around inside our ships, just lots of pointless 3d modelling work for the devs. If you want to walk around inside your ship I recommend playing Star Citizen.

I agree when talking about the ships we fly.
But what about Stations, Fleet Carriers, Mega-ships, Generation ships, Installations, Planetary Bases, EVAs in space, the Thargoid and Guardian structures.
Those are all large enough to be interesting to walk in and could quite easily provide game play scenarios.
They dont need to be super detailed from the get go, At first they just need to have the ability of the player being able to walk in and on them.

They didn't mention space legs combat, so I guess that is out.

They didn't say you wouldn't have to ride a donkey out of your ship on to the planet surface, so I guess we'll have to ride donkeys.

They didn't say that to get Space Legs, not only will you have to buy the DLC but you'll have to have spent £1,000 in the ARX store to qualify, so I guess we better get buying some ARX

I could go on...

A developer said that they "fulfilled the promise they made, right at the very start of Elite, that they would finally allow people to get out of their ships and walk on planetary surfaces".

That's very specific, and if you need the real confirmation from developers that we won't be able to walk inside, feel free to wait a bit more, I'm sure that devs will chime in.
That does indeed specifically address ... getting out and walking on planets.

You realise it doesn't address ... walking on ships?

If I say I like tomatoes, what I havent said is I dislike marzipan.

I think we can go by the concept art in the backgound that has previously been shown as an indicator of what to expect. We will get meeting places on planetary bases where players can interact with each other, procedural settlements that we can walk around get and complete missions by interacting with NPCs ect. I don't think we will get station, fleet carrier or ship interiors. Basically that which is practical for the devs to cost effectively develop. I am actually looking forward to being able to walk around and fly on planets with tenous atmospheres and the footage all looks good to me, but I was a beta backer so it won't cost me any more money to do so.

Hopefully if FD are sucessful and sell a lot of DLC with Oddessy, we may get further content in the future, but when it comes to redundant 3d models and textures like the inside of our ships I would not hold your breath. Like I said if you want to do that sort of thing get Star Citizen. People all want to walk around inside their ships but believe me the novelty will get old very quick and soon show to be a waste of time and effort, and the devs happen to know this already because they are game developers.

I do wish to point this out...

When Odyssey was first announced, people immediately began asking about VR, base building, interiors, atmospheres, etc... And base building was almost instantly shot down, along with vr. You'd figure if interiors weren't a part of odyssey, they would've shot that down as well, but....

Not to raise anyone's expectations or anything, just throwing that out there.

That was pretty obvious, mechinics are already here it's only time to change grahics from the srv to player model and that is it.
