[Speculation] Commanders, no walking inside your ships for Odyssey

One thought that just came was that with ship interiors they probably need to retcon the gravity technology lore. As there is no artificial gravity in ships, a “plane like design” wouldn’t make no sense when travelling through space below super cruise. It would be either artificial gravity, complete redesign of the ships cockpits / interiors or constant super cruise.

The lore is simply that we use magnetic boots/soles.

While I am disappointed ship interiors won't be at launch, I'm still glad they are considering adding it post-launch. It's a much more optimistic outlook than a straight up "we aren't going to do it."
Myself and another discussed this today. I think the release of Odyssey will be successful in the event this is missing from the start if they don't charge a lot for the DLC type content. If they charge too much, even 20 quid (I'm not UK, it's the price my colleague said) will be too much in my opinion. I think if it's missing the interior-ships and buildings aspect-this release shouldn't be more that 15 USD (whatever that is in quid).

I am looking forward to Odyssey, I really am. I think much like FCs will open up new ways to play. But I can't justify paying more than 15 USD for an expansion that is lacking interiors of ships and buildings.

Edit: The current model for games similar (FPS) are now free and draw their money from aesthetic upgrades (skins for characters/weapons/emotes). While this isn't a Fortnite game- it certainly doesn't have the demographics or market share, that is more of a reason to not overcharge for content that has been worked on for nearly two years (by presumptive release date) and only allowing you to walk around on tenuous atmosphere planets with minor missions/pvp/pve stuff.

There's no gameplay in walking around inside our ships, just lots of pointless 3d modelling work for the devs. If you want to walk around inside your ship I recommend playing Star Citizen.

Already am. The other night my friend and I drove a Bobcat type mining vehicle into the cargo bay and headed out together. Worked as a team to mine in shifts and use the ship to shelter from the cold. Took it back and split the proceeds. Later he handled a turret while we flew some bounty missions.

Id love to see Elite offer some semblance of that fun evening for us. I’d really love it since it’s not a 10 year money-pit with almost no playable game loops that crashes if its glanced around sideways.

Months of development so you can walk once or twice in your ship out of curiosity, get bored of the idea very quickly and never do it again.

I hope for two things with Odyssey -

1) That there are some atmospheres thick enough to completely obscure the skybox during daytime.
2) I hope that on such worlds I'm NOT required to wear a helmet and thus hear my own breathing inside the suit. I want the sense that I'm breathing a suitable atmosphere unaided, otherwise it will feel claustrophobic, like I'm still stuck inside my ship. I want out.

This wonky bit of assumption needs to be presented via an open letter.

Then Youtubers can made videos on the open letter

Then forum posts can cite the Youtubers in new threads

And Then new videos on Youtube can talk about the new threads in the forum

And then it is 100% Confirmed as we have three independent sources

I love a good speculation thread where facts are not important.

I heard a rumour that walking about planets is not happening and in fact we'll only be able to walk around our cargo bays.

I'd be ecstatic to be able to park my ship in my own personal hangar, get up then walk around inside, step out into the hangar then run external diagnostics on the computer console there.

Not even dreaming of getting out of the seat during flight at this point. Just let us SEE and EXPERIENCE our ships from the inside in full.

If walking around our ships isnt coming in full form, why not pull an X4. Let us at least bask from within the cockpits or bridges, all of the modelling for those areas has mostly been done. Common Fdev, space legs without interiors is pretty disappointing in my opinion.

LOL, are you kidding?
What about reparations (inside and outside), managing systems to get some temporary bonus, ships boarding, abandoned ships exploration....

What game-play progression there actually is in this game is rather hit or miss for me. The novelty/sim type elements are what brought me in and keep me playing more than anything else, if I'm being honest. The setting is great, and the sim-light/arcade elements are decent.

For basic game-play, Super Mario Bros. is at least 20 times better than something like the FSS game-play though, for example – naturally, in my opinion.

Having said, we're getting the long missing ice planets, so that's a plus.
But those were supposed to be part of Beyond updated... so free to everyone owning Horizons..
Is there any confirmation that those will be added to Horizons as well? Because currently I'm not interested in buying Odyssey.

And base building was almost instantly shot down, along with vr. You'd figure if interiors weren't a part of odyssey, they would've shot that down as well, but...
Not so sure about this...
I mean imagine you make a big announcemente and immediately after you start the list of things not implemented for sure... you better keep this list short if you don't want to lose all your customers in one shot. So you give them the time to swallow the first ones, than you add some more details later...

If FSD and Supercruise (which they say is kinda FSD) use Quantum Mechanics and at the same time are some sort of Alcubierre drive (which theoretically doesn't work with quantum mechanics), then we could assume / imagine gravity doesn't matter as long as you are in super cruise / FSD. But in "normal" space it would. And to create artificial gravity there you would need to spin (as long as you are stationary) or us the engine thrust below you. For the latter you would build space ships that look like large towers (see The Expanse) and not look like some airplanes. I would highly recommend fixing the artificial gravity lore first. Something like: the FSD Drive is able to create a constant artificial gravity to the structure it is attached....or something like that.

Another difficulty with in cockpit first person is gravity, there's no artificial gravity so in space we would be floating in zero g.

...and as soon as the ship has started to accelerate (because of a ram, for instance), we'll need to ask the NPC crew to wipe our dead bodies off the walls. :)

No idea. I'm still only 1/2 interested still. While its not safe to assume anything, you could ask the question are there multiple types of ice planets in the stellar forge? Yeah i guess there are ice planets with atmospheres so could be either way.

From a pure PR perspective I would imagine it can be more effective and less damaging to give all bad news in one go (within reasonable limits). This helps minimising the negative impact not only in absolute terms (some negative reactions are shared across topics) but also in time: You get it done with and move on with the positive stuff instead of having a new reputational hit down the line.

Not an absolute or guaranteed rule of course and this can always be an exception here. But I suspect the fact is not yet officially confirmed nor denied simply means the actual situation is just not a binary straightforward scenario. The answer may be complex or have nuances that can not just be conveyed in a simple blanket yes or no, unlike VR or bases.
