Question for Open players who don't like PVP/ganking... help me understand

I believe every word you're saying, honestly. And yet, you both missed my point entirely. But ok, I don't want to mess up your mind filters, it obviously hurts.

When you lead with, "Nice story bro" I don't really care about your point because of the point I'm about to make:

One of the biggest problems in this discussion are folks with very little expertise in Open, and the incredible emergent content the mode provides, missing the big picture of what we're trying to communicate.

Danque wasn't generalizing. He was relying a story that many of us know all too well. The emergent content possible in this game is mind blowing... if only you'd stop missing the forest for the trees.

Which means adult gankers are like adult pigeons? You hear them squawking all the time and when youre minding your own business driving along or waiting patiently at the lights allowing other drivers to go about their business, suddenly they come along and poop on your vehicle?

My point is that the stereotypical use of the word "ganker" is probably the main cause of all misunderstandings and bad feelings.

Yeap, gankers are people too. And they have feelings

He was telling a story that is very much in line with your agenda, I get that. Other then that, no one is telling me that experience alone tops logic.
If I was bitten by a dog, I'm not going around and telling everyone how evil dogs are in general...

There's no agenda. We're just people telling stories. At least for me, the outcome is ultimately irrelevant.

No, we're too busy ganking Trafalgar Square.

First off, your "vast majority" is hard to believe as everyone has to start somewhere. So it's way more likely the number of inexperienced gankers would be larger than the other way around.
Well, I can tell you that, from my now months' long interaction with the ganking community (via various private, invite-only Discord servers and the like), that most gankers are actually highly experienced players who've "done it all" and settled on ganking because they still enjoy Elite and its community, but have gotten a bit bored with most other activities.

Inexperienced gankers - or ganklings, as they are known in some circles - are usually recruited via interdiction and explosion. They are relatively uncommon, compared to the rather vast reservoir of experienced players within the ganker ranks. It's particularly uncommon for a completely new player to become a ganker straightaway - I'm a bit of an anomaly, from what I gather.

So, sure - more anecdotal generalizations. But I want you to know: it's been a minute since I got a "cool story, bro" and I really appreciated that. Thanks!

My point is that the stereotypical use of the word "ganker" is probably the main cause of all misunderstandings and bad feelings. It doesn't really help when individual gankers constantly say that they're not of this kind if they can't know anything about other gankers. Knowing only a few can't be representative for all of them.
I don't think you understand quite how well connected the PvP community is and how much we talk to each other. Of course our opinions of other groups are biased and sprinkled with talk, but if someone has been PvPing in common areas for a couple of months they'll be known. Most of the bigger groups talk to each other quite a lot, have interlinked friendship networks and generally stay pretty well up to date with what's going on in the community at large.

Honestly, this is one of the best descriptions I've seen of ganking so far. Bravo! LMAO

So you are saying then, all players are Pyrophytic in nature and require the purifying flames of combat to emerge as a gankling? Like its some sort of life cycle, like a butterfly emerging from a chrysalis?

Does Phisto hold up these newly fledged ganklings, Rafiki style?

Honestly, I'm too new to say for sure. I was only relating what I'd seen and heard from the folks who I've been learning from.

But speaking more generally, I wouldn't find it surprising if people's first PVP experience - whatever form it takes - winds up becoming a sort of Rubicon for them. The ones who like it, go on to search out more of it, and the ones who don't, find the modes, tactics and tools to let them avoid it.

For my part - my squadron invite came immediately after that story above, about the reverse-reverse gank. That's when I really felt I'd been accepted into the group, as it were.

Did Phisto hold you on high though?

One of the problems is that to get revenge against PVP'er commander you yourself need to become PVP'er. In real life reasonably rich people can simply hire somebody to get even. Maybe lawyer if they are limiting themselves to strictly legal means. Maybe some shadier types if they prefer somewhat other kind of response. Now Fdev could add player given bounty mechanics. Add to rebuy screen option of posting bond, and upper limit of amount is what ever bounty issuer has in account-minus rebuy. Money is taken upfront and bounty posted in local systems and select popular player systems mission boards, and advertised say week or two. If in that time no one has claimed bounty, it is returned to issuer. Okay somebody really riles up some really deep pocketed miner, and miner posts FC worth of money to take down attacker. I suspect that such system would produce working pvp bounty hunting economy. Especially if one could issue bounties claimable by wings.
