Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

I left my base in Colonia at the end of last month, deciding to make my way to Explorers Anchorage via the system i noted before as a possible candidate for
Raxxlaaa, scanning and mapping every system i came across along the way (about 150 systems). It was quite an uneventful journey, with very few planets of any particular interest, only one WW and two terraformables. A lot of the systems were already discovered by other commanders, which didn't surprise me as the route must be fairly well travelled already, and arrived at EA in the tail end of this evening. In fact, the most interesting thing i saw throughout the trip was in the EA system itself, where the NSP signal revealed itself to be a cluster of LO type 4 anomalies. I have run into these on a couple of occasions before, but what surprised me was the number of them, some twenty or thirty of them, together with metallic crystals. Previously, i only encountered them in this system as singletons, without any accompanying MC's, so it was quite a shock to see so many together, dancing about like fairy lights.Quite a sight.

There are four FC's in-system, and checking the map, about a dozen next door at Sag A* itself, but i steered clear of them, so i haven't actually seen one yet, although this is my first encounter with them.
I've already plotted the route to my next destination, and tomorrow we will set off for the basement.

Posting and exploring... a relaxing pasttime!

I was going to comment on the dearth of tritium in icy rings when, blow me, I find a tritium hotspot. It's a single spot so I'm not holding out much hope. However, the point of the post was, I entered the sysmap and saw a ringed planet. Checking it's details, I saw its rings were icy.

Without bothering to use the FSS as I wasn't interested in the rest of the system - they all looked like icy bodies anyway - off I trundled.

As I approached the planet I'd selected, I suddenly heard a noise I hadn't heard for a while: the disco scanner kicking in by itself. I'd completely forgotten the "old way" of exploration so it brought a small smilette to my otherwise grumpy boat race.

Nice hotspot, but only 120 tritium in 1 1/2 hours... is that good or bad?

And lo, lessons once learnt became easily forgotten.
For is it not written that a man who doth have a modicum of tech savvy shalt backup his files?
Nay! Altering HUD colours shouldst be done with care and not furious anger!
For when the game refuseth to load due to invalid config dialogue message,
One shouldst copy back thine original backup. If said orignal backup exists in first bloody place
.

A game reinstall and file verification process later, the game loaded. Lesson learnt. Again. Sad...

:poop::mad:(n)

Mea culpa.

Getting slightly faster at mining Painite - need to probably understand the min target between percentage Painite and Low/Med/High mineral content sometime to get a little more efficient, but it did pay tonight for an alternative mining gig, an upgraded Python for giggles. (Not in regulation orange hey...)
Will now revert to plan and take the DBX out for the Guardian FSD shenanigans next time out.

I think low, medium, high materials relates to the stuff you trade. The percentage indirectly relates to the percentage in the fragment. The number of fragments is related to the grade of prospector limpets controller.
I made it to Expert last night. I was excited to get an invite to another engineer, but less than excited to see that the engineer was in Colonia! I'm saving up a trip to go there after Dangerous. Quite a few ships to destroy first. I wondering if progress is to a bigger ship, or to learn FA off. Both might balance the boredom of the early learning in FA off.

Thanks AntHill and Algwat - that helps! I’m using 3A prospector limpets, and a couple of 2D mining lasers. The Clipper is set up with 3A/5A collector, but only 5A on the Python which was noticeably slower, but then the Python can land in more places... I’ll need to play further with the optimum mining build, methinks.

If you get a first disco and sell the data on a carrier, does it still give you the first disco recognotion and tag the system accordingly?
yes, worked for first mapped rings also.

Today my FC crew grassed me to the security and fined me for returning with some, I swear your h'nor, salvaged cargo.
Got to think of how to make this a good thing.....bulk salvage or black market???

How long does it take for deposits at geological sites to respawn?
As I recall, it's 2 weeks for stuff like crystal shards and other geologicals to respawn (per player).

If you get a first disco and sell the data on a carrier, does it still give you the first disco recognotion and tag the system accordingly?
Yes, it sure does. Each day after exploration when I return to my carrier to sell the data, that's part of the fun -- seeing my name on everything right away!

The only downside of selling on the carrier is the 25% cut in payout. If you own the carrier, though, half of that (12.5%) goes to the carrier balance, so in reality you just pay 12.5% for the 'convenience' :p

That's about what I get, sometimes more. My base line is 100T/hr, that's what I consider a normal yield for me (but I'm not a super-fast miner, not at all).

I've had to tear myself away from "my" double hotspot. I could easily just stay and mine the hell out of it but then I wouldn't be going anywhere :D

So, I've got a jump sequence started to an area called "Swoiwns". Excited to see what sort of stuff I can see. Sag A* is only 25KLY away . Or 50 odd full-phat carrier jumps.

EDIT - still can't see the carrier name  And I'm not sure about that honk noise as you jump to and exit hyperspace; kind of reminds of some old-time steamboat :D

EDIT 2

So, when I enter a system, I exit hyperspace near the star:

However, when I check the sysmap, the carrier isn't by the star at all - in this case some 1,600LS away:

Does that seem a bit odd?

And the "cut" really doesn't matter much now that Credits are so plentiful that you'll drown in them even if you try NOT to make any.

I personally love the cut for the FC owner even though I don't own one myself, because I like the fact that the owner gets a token of my appreciation for having parked his boat where I needed it, saving me a potentially very long trip. Or my life if I'm literally at the ARX end of nowhere with a blown component that I'd otherwise have to go all the way to the Bubble to fix. Helps them with the upkeep, at least.

I really do appreciate the FC CMDRs out there. I don't like the clutter and the intermittent network issues, but that's neither the FCs nor their owners' faults, that one's on FDev's implementation of them, which will hopefully get fixed one day.
