Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Ah I see. I thought the sysmap showed which body the carrier orbited. Cheers!
It does, but yours is orbiting the star. If it was orbiting a body there’d be a line drawn to that body and the carrier icon would be below the body.

Try using the orrery view, might be helpful.

Or jump your carrier to a body and see the difference. You can jump within the system once you’ve discovered it and can see the bodies.

You will find it on the structure just ahead of the landing pads on your model - location is different for different "models".

Expect to be underwhelmed.

Ah yes, I see it now. Underwhelmed mode on.

Also, what is interesting is how Inara sees carriers. What I mean is, ones credits and assets take a 5bnCR nose dive when purchasing one - I would have thought it would see the carrier as an asset. Credits, I understand. Just a thought.

That sounds as if Inara has been setup using the concept that Carriers are leased rather than purchased, which some believe because they can be taken from you if you don’t keep up the payments.

Yeah, I'm not a fan of the upkeep angle but what can you do? 5bn seems a lot of money in anyone's book so not outrightly owning a carrier after shelling out that much is bit... unsatisfactory :D Just my opinion, of course.

And if they ever try and send the bailffs round to my carrier, I'll bite their chuffing fingers off!

Hmm... tritium hotspots are a bit thin on the ground around here, let alone any tri2's. Are single hotspots worth delving into, or do they give very low yields?

At this rate, I'll be going back to the bubble to buy a hold full.

In the last patch FD upped the yield in single hotspots, and reduced dramatically the effect of overlaps. So nowadays, single hotspots are only a very small amount less productive than the best doubles (and by that I mean they are right on top of each other, so the centers overlap -- anything that only overlaps on the edges is worthless).

I've tested using the miners analyzer and I can confirm that things are working this way.

For me, that means I can get approx 100T in an hour. It takes just over that to jump 500LY in my carrier, equipped as it is.

Personally, I consider that amount of time barely acceptable, and I will probably only mine Tritium when I absolutely have to do so.

If I mine an hour for Painite, that same 100T will buy me a lot of Tritium, because Painite sells for 600-900k, compared to Tritium at 40-52k.

From what I understand, this is how the game portrays your assets as well.

In the Codex it shows my assets as under 7 billion, but I have a carrier (5 billion+) and another almost 5 billion in cash, plus 1.6 billion in ships, not to mention modules and such. Doesn't add up there either.

Inara tries its best to consolidate this, I guess :)

Great! Thanks (y)

I decided to add some screenshots to clarify the system map. I was in there, anyway :p

Here's how the system map looks when you first jump to an undiscovered system, in your carrier. The carrier is orbiting the star at this point. Most of the bodies don't show up because I have not used the FSS yet. Anyway, you can see that the line it draws to the carrier is quite long, and makes it look like the carrier is beyond the asteroid belt, when it is not. I think they add carriers to the system map last, after everything else is in place.

And here's how the system map looks after I have run the FSS on everything. You can see how it fills in all the bodies, but the carrier is still shown last. Everything on the top line is orbiting the star, and the carrier is again shown last even though it's right next to the star.

And here's how the system map looks after I've jumped my carrier to orbit one of the small planets. Now it's more clear where it is, I think.

I agree that the display is rather confusing due to the carriers always being added last. But it's understandable once you realize that part.

Makes sense now.

Rep!

Hey, I just figured this out, thanks to your previous question, Tyres, and it's solved a little problem for me.

During travelling, when I first jump into an undiscovered system in my carrier, I always wonder if it's worth stopping to run the FSS. I've been just doing it for any undiscovered system.

But today I saw this when I arrived at one:

Screenshot_0733.jpg

There is NO ROOM left to fill in any bodies. Which means, there are no bodies!

Which means I don't have to bother launching my ship and using the FSS here, even though the system is not tagged. I'll get the tag on the star anyway.

This will save time. So, thanks!

If only your carrier could honk...

I've had an interesting day, with quite a few remarkable sights. I started out at one of the Guardian Ancient Ruins sites.

I'm headed out on a rambling exploration trip. Next stop I used the Mamba to investigate, just because.

Found some cool geysers. I'm in a new galactic sector that I've never visited, so everything is a new Codex entry. :)

I found this odd ring thing. Best wat to describe it is via a photo:

What was wierd was that I couldn't probe it: I was always too far away

After a moments pondering, I gave up as my brain is too small to cope with such anomalies. Any idea what it is I am seeing?

The very next system over, however, came up trumps for me:

Not much to write home about - until I checked the nav panel:

Thars pain in them thar hills! And fuel! And other goodies I'll be exploting tomorrow... "Ahhh, smug mode".

It's just a ring that's far from the planet.

I've had one so far that was nearly impossible to probe.

I succeeded eventually by using a very weird and low angle, but I have spoken to others who say they've found some that were just too distant.

It probably contains a quadruple Painite overlap that no one will ever see :p
