Is it normal that players can safely kill everyone on Planetary Outposts?

When I arrived at Long Sight Base one player killed me. After the second docking attempt, I was killed by his friend. They rammed everyone who flew in and the base's weapons were apparently destroyed. This is how they answered my question

OP, you have to block out those names in your picture mate - you will get moderated otherwise, and pretty soon. To the point that you're lucky it's a Friday actually! Black out the names mate, PDQ...!

And to answer your question, yes - you got ganked and it sucks. Sorry, I'm guessing you're fairly new to the game? If so I can find someone with good advice to avoid these kind of situations, above and beyond my own knowledge, but someone here may help in the interim.

But this is the base of the engineer and is completely defenseless. In a safe zone, you can't even give any resistance. If you have to play PG because of griefers, then it makes no sense in multiplayer until you get a PVP build ship.
Why no one installed a couple of BFG9000 on this base?

Engineer bases have plenty of weapons that you can't disable.
The thing about ramming is that it doesn't trigger a lethal response until it's too late. Same thing can be done around starports too, though there's less cover to dive behind in open space.

"Ganks for the Gankgod"... sorry OP but that's perfectly valid

You are hereby ordered to Git Gud scrub... next case

Valid it may be, but ramming somebody to death on the landing pad is extremely lame. Where is the skill in that? Give me somebody who jumps me and shoots me down, any time. But a rammer? C'mon. What's next? Asking a one-legged dude to participate in a kicking contest...?

Because there will always be a-holes around the world. That's why I mainly play in a PG. People are over-rated.

welcome to the gankfest that is Open, where YOU are the content.

Nah. It's a blockade of an engineer base for whatever reason. It doesn't matter. What matters is your game, and getting around the blockade.

Seveal possible tactics, block players as mentioned, solo/pg, or overfly the area first, identify who's what and where doing what, fast approach, land while they're ganking someone else or even drive into the base in SRV.

One of those things, engineers like certain starports are magnets for players. Expect the unexpected in such places and stay frosty accordingly. Good luck. o7

OP, to answer your question: Yes, while in Open, it's normal that anyone can be attacked by other players anywhere, at any time, for any reason as well as no reason.

PVP in Elite can take many forms, from arranged competitions between individuals or wings, to "organic" fights between the people you come across, to ganking newbies at Engineering bases. All of these are examples of "player versus player" interaction, and in Elite there is never any promise that the fight will be fair or balanced. In fact, because there is no skill or level based matchmaking of any kind, a brand-new player can and will end up interacting with a battle-hardened veteran with endgame gear.

With that said, there are plenty of experienced players, including gankers, who are more than happy to help new players with questions. I know this sounds like the height of counter-intuitive hypocrisy, but you're just going to have to trust me when I say that it's true. These players may send friend requests after they gank someone, and if they do, consider accepting it. They may be eager to offer you some tips and advice on how to survive a gank attempt in the future. Some of them have even created training programs to help new players gain the skills and knowledge to feel confident flying in Open. One of the best-known is @Sir Ganksalot 's Gank Evasion Academy: https://discord.gg/aFSzbXe

To wrap up, yes, this kind of PVP - ganking - is one of the "features" of the Open game mode. It's not for everyone, and if it isn't for you, it's understandable. You have options, which have already been outlined in this thread.

I'm CMDR D'ANQUEMEME in game. I would be happy to accept your friend request and help you in any way I can if you have questions. Full disclosure, I am also a filthy ganker. With that said, I was given a lot of help in Elite when I got started - by the person who ganked me, as it turns out - and I am carrying on that tradition. I know it sounds weird, but it's a thing. I wish you the best of luck, whatever you decide to do.

Good luck CMDR and fly dangerous.

tbf the screenshot was probably redacted by the time you posted but it showed some chat from the perps and lets just summarise and say it wasnt exactly friendly or helpful or offering advice.

My bigger issue with this isnt the PVP/ PVE etc its the fact than anyone who repeatedly causes large amounts of burning wreckage to fall down onto the Engineers base wouldn't actually be welcome anywhere near it for years to come, best case they are terrible pilots worse case its deliberate, and if it were my base would be on a KOS list. Even if it were just the Agri pods that got damaged all the time Id still not want them near as too high risk. As usual its the lore breaking / lack of consequences thats the problem.

I agree, I think it's absolutely bonkers that you can gank someone at an Engineer base, fly up into Orbital Cruise, drop back down, be back at the base less than 1 minute later, and it's like nothing happened.

Sure, I mean, you'll have a bounty, but the base is just like "Welcome CMDR! Make sure to submit a docking request!" when not even 60 seconds before it was full armed response.

It's rather immersion breaking, to be honest.

As lame as it may be, It is not against the game rules.
You have the option play in solo or pg when going to engineers or other camped player hubs.
You can also block them. No loss if you do that, tbh
