Please add a storyline quest with Odyssey

Please please please add a storyline quest with odyssey. It doesnt have to be cinematic quality storyline. Just a long chain quest that gives us deep content. You could even voice act the dialog in the storyline like you do with galnet. This would give us an amazing HANDS ON experience with the story of Elite Dangerous

I feel like this is a pivatol moment for me with this title. I think the determining factor of weather I shelve this game or not and I think other people as well is seeing what Odyssey brings to the table. If it is clear to me on release that they are not taking this title seriously then we will have to see what happens.

Suggestion was not enough. Now we have ultimatum.

They should just sell campaign arcs as DLC for those that like that sort of thing, instance 'em on key locations.

Otherwise, wrong game for it!

I would LOVE to have some story to participate in. I like the idea of story arcs we've been told about but I think it will all me en-masse events. Those are fine, but I too miss something much more personal.

It should be possible to add Skyrim level or maybe Mass Effect style quests as DLC. A storyline for each main profession and for the Alliance, Empire, Federation.

I like story too, but it's notoriously hard to get right in MMO settings and you have to balance out the worth over time for what is likely a one-shot bit of content.

What an odd thing to say. Of course they're taking this title seriously - they're still generating content for it some five years after release. If it's a joke it'd be wearing a little thin by now and you wouldn't bother posting on their forums!

That's the problem in ED for storyline stuff, all events take place in real time in ED, they could craft a deeply nested story line about an abandoned base and some other stuff, insert it into the game, and one person might play it and then it's over because the events take place in real time, you can't just keep repeating the same events over and over like a traditional MMO.

Hmm, that's not true - lots of stuff from years ago can still be done as part of your 'personal narrative'. No reason you couldn't add a few personalised missions to tie Guardian unlocks into the game for instance, or even finding the Generation Ships - both have been in the game for ages, but the only way to find them is via Google etc.

There will always be the MMO story that unfolds in real time, but there could be a persona story that leads you through different things that are in-game. The problem here is that you could have jumped forward and visited site A based on Google and then get a personal mission where you 'discover' site A, and then people would complain. But hey - people complain whatever, so it's down to whether fdev think it would sell more than ... legs on atmos planets for example.

There are many things that you can do like that but I think the OP was referring to something a bit more in depth than say exploring the guardian sites or finding generation ships, the "deep content and story of Elite Dangerous" is actually happening as you play the game, that is the story the OP is looking for, but it happens in real time. Ok I am missing a lot out here, The Formidine Rift, discovery of the Guardian Sites, adaption of guardian tech, Thargoid Incursions, Station Attacks, Even Jaques Station jump and Colonia, this is the story of Elite Dangerous, you would need to repeat all that to give someone the experience of the story of Elite Dangerous, and that can't happen. Anything they add is simply going to be something laid over the top of that, it's not going to be what the OP wants I suspect.

I expect they will add many involved missions that you can do when Odyssey comes out, but unlike a traditional MMO, say LOTRO, where a new player, and indeed old players, can play through the entirety of the story of the ring traveling to Mordor, the invasion of Mordor and Minas Tirith etc, repeating the story of Elite Dangerous isn't going to happen, and that's what I mean by not being able to repeat events over, any repeatable and replayable content is just going to be overlayed on top of the base story that will continue on its way no matter what any individual player does.

Having re-read the OP they don't seem to have any clue about the story of the game, so I doubt they want what you say. They seem to not realise they've bought an MMO. New players often make this type of 'change the game to be what I thought I bought' suggestions, probably best to let them go full Bazmeson 🤷‍♂️

Can't be an MMO, it has solo mode 🤷‍♂️

I guess you missed that part of thursday's Live stream when Arthur mentioned that the story line content will shift to mostly Odyssey Content when the DLC is released (although it won't be 100% Odyssey).

But if you're after theme-park MMO type quests, I'm afraid this isn't the game for that kind of content.

I absolutely despise scripted stories in games that turn them into an 'on-rails' experience, and they are absolutely everywhere. Games where you make your own emergent story like Elite, or the elder scrolls are the minority, so no thanks.
