ANNOUNCEMENT Elite Dangerous: Horizons Set to Land for All Commanders

In other words - why buy any updates when you can have them for free? Then again, it's not like Horizons screwed over my playthrough by goalposting the vanilla gameplay behind the awful engineering grind. Defininitely hasn't been worth the money, but for free it's now adequately priced with all its F2P gameplay yollocks.

Hello,

Thanks for the Azure ship paint job, but I have two questions. When will it be available after the 26th or before? The second question is an example. For example, I took Azure ship paint job from my python, but after a while I decided to buy another ship, this Azure ship paint job, will it be clear that I already have it for him or not?
all paintjobs are attached to your account, you will have access to any of them, no matter if you currently own the ship or not, or if you sell the ship in question and rebuy it later.

Thanks , amazing news for the new combers, but also us veterns\backers - its a nice gesture -however-.

One point of clarity on the 'available for all ships' - if we dont yet own a certain ship type in our fleet ... say the mamba, and this paintjob drops before I buy a mamba, will we still get it unlocked for the maba in the future?

Reason I ask is some of the older special\limited gifted paints ..I didnt have a certain ship type, but bought it later down the track - and didnt unlock the paint at that future point.. but for my friend. who had that ship type already at the type of the paint- it it unlocked on the day for him - and could sell and rebuy that ship type and still have that paint unlocked.

Thanks :p
Hey,

The paint job will be added to your account for all of the ships, and there wont be a limited time for you to access it for a ship.

Thanks!

Excellent news.
However, what about using the "Load Non-Horizons" to get out of glitchy SRV situations ? I hope there is another solution provided or Support will have a LOT of admin to do every day.

They should just introduce a no-boost zone when near Brain Trees

Oh well, that is kind a sad actually... Because that means that the Odyssey is either the absolutely last update "season" and the game is consider dead/winiwshed, or the next one will come after another like 2-3 years, maybe longer...

Not really, it all depends on how well Odyssey sells. I'm sure that f-dev has a line which if Odyssey crosses then there will be a next update.

Greetings Commanders,

We are happy to announce that Elite Dangerous: Horizons will become a free update for the base game on the 27 October 2020 for PC, PlayStation, and Xbox users.

After the fold down, anyone who owns Elite Dangerous will get access to Horizons content and features free of charge, and all future purchases of Elite Dangerous will include this content.

As a huge thank you to everyone who has purchased Elite Dangerous: Horizons over the past four years you will be receiving an exclusive Azure ship paint job compatible with ALL ships currently in the game.

Elite Dangerous: Horizons brings planetary landings to the Elite Dangerous galaxy, together with weapon crafting, ship-launched fighters and exhilarating multicrew co-op action. This premium expansion also allows players to put wheels on the ground and explore the galaxy up-close with the SRV Scarab ground vehicle, and access to many surface star ports and other locations

Elite Dangerous: Horizons will remain on sale on all platforms until 26 October to allow players a last chance to obtain the exclusive Horizon owner reward.

I think that is the right thing to do.

Thanks Stephen for such a rapid repsonse - appreciate it.

Craith - this helps as well - appreciate it.

If that were the case "Odyssey" would have been released in 2018 instead of Beyond.
Surely it's more logical to conclude now, along with the news of everyone getting the new terrain tech, "Next Era" dev involved more stuff behind the hood of the base game than just creating another plugin DLC. So there will be a big free update for Base game users too when Odyssey launches.
