Pull Your Fingers Out - Incrementally Improving PowerPlay

So you want to force someone with let's say 5 billion worth of exploration data into open to unlock the LYR bonus? I think in that case you can just as well remove the bonus.
Anything close to that value, that supporters of other powers could lose because of that? I have my doubts. There is no comparable relation between risk vs. gain.

Yes. If people want their cake, they must eat it. Open Only proponents should have to do their stuff in Open and not jump into PG/solo when it is convenient for them.

It's a rather inproportionate risk/reward situation in that case - after months of exploration you would need to grind rank in open, at the risk of losing all your explo data. For none of the other factions there is so much at risk for gaining the bonus. It's not balanced across the powers.

Its not really, if you look at the bonus from a regular Powerplay perspective (especially pre FSS times). The bonus is not about one big monolithic transaction (although it can be used for that), its more about doubling casual scan return as you fly about- BGS farming requires data and here you'd be earning double while doing your weekly quota.

The problem you see is treating that R5 bonus like module shopping (i.e. its done for a singular week).

In solo mode, I particpated in PP when goodies were on offer but the risk-type boardgamey feel did nothing to entice me beyond getting those goodies. Not sure how making it open only would improve things based on this, as I'd expect there would be less participants in PP if you excluded the whole player base. Besides, I paid for this game and I would not like to see game content removed as a punsihment for playing solo. :)

Modules would be shifted to brokers. Open makes the basic PP tasks more complex through player interactions- going by reactions and polls you'd trade about 300 players for about 5000 so I don't see the 'if you excluded the whole player base' argument. Plus (which Sandro hinted at and I expanded on) you can split Powerplay into Open tasks and Solo/ pG tasks so no one loses out- the difference being each task is set for a mode rather than trying to get everything to work at once (which is impossible).

The one everybody's been asking for is finally here:

Hi Edmund, is this a process with a time-limited schedule? Do you have a plan for how long these suggestion threads will be monitored for comment before moving on to another stage? Your series of posts have been raised as items for discussion, and I think they are good, they address important features of the game and the requested discussion seems to be happening well, but are they also intended as complete and finished suggestions for Frontier to consider? Or is that to be a future stage?

time to make power play open only. FDEV is losing lots of players and I do not think they will upgrade if power play in open only is enacted. Several players have give recommendations on how this can be accomplished incrementally. Time for FDEV to listen to their player base or they will lose it.

No point bumping the thread, especially with duplicate posts.

FD said just the other day that Powerplay changes are on their long term plans. This likely means years away. Make all the suggestions you want, nothing is going to change in the forseeable future.
