Wings, but no ship

My son has just got the game through epic store. His done some missions and we both joined the same private group, and joined as a wing. However we could only see each others wake and no ship even though the ships were at the same location.

any ideas

There have been reports of wings not working through the epic games side of it, but I've not had this myself. Just passing on second hand info, but hopefully it'll help you realize you're not alone!

Are you in the same network?
If yes, make sure each of you use different port numbers.
