Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

I'm guessing that the intent is for the first minute to be a simple supercut of reactions, but it really more comes out as a hint that the presenter needs to up his medication. Or lower it. Anything, really, except keep it where it is at the moment. :p

Don't worry! A guy in a dodgy hairpiece will be looking for it soon :D

From 0:23, how can one not face-palm at the absurdity of CIG's "space ship" designs. Sorry sovapid, couldn't watch for more than 30 secs. Wake me when CIG get a clue. I'll break out the cryogenic tank.

No need to be sorry, that was the whole point of me posting it. :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

He is so excited and happy for 3.12. He is probably happier about 3.12 than I have been about anything in my entire life. And in a way, I'm kinda jealous. It is good for people to be happy.

From the land of the bat-poopoo insane

Big Pub CEOs lose sleep every night over SC. If you don't get that - I can't help you ...

Well, perhaps, but only from the context of "How do I tap into this well of morons and bleed them dry?"

I try to play modern COD and I throw up in my mouth. It isn't even in the same sport, let alone within reach of the field of what SC is doing.

I've had my fill of rehashed, reskin shooters

And Star Marine is different somehow?

SC alpha is a better game, objectively, IN ALPHA, than many AAA games

That's an interesting use of the word objectively.

That timelapse really didn't do SC a favour, with the flat static clouds texture just rotating around the planet. Since SC is usually trying to score points with its optic that is a disappointment. OTOH, on a static screenshot it probably looks ok.

The strange birdlike thing ... well, it certainly aims at another target group than me. I prefer believable science fiction (realistic is a bit much), what happens when the ship comes under fire? or enters an atmosphere?

Someone on SA pointed out a rather silly trope, that is why do birdmen fly bird shaped ships? You don't see humans flying human shaped ships.

They want to add volumetric clouds but are not sure to be able to do it in SC (requires a lot of resources).

Heh, the last thing SC needs at this moment in time is more performance hogs.

Still, the usual screed is its all ok, because you don't optimize during alpha and CIG will make all performance issues go away later closer to release... hahahaha

Cloud comparison from space between 3.11 and 3.12

Yeah, they still look like a bit odd to me.

Live clouds are one of those things that are interesting on a resource front. Do you even notice their motion from space during live play? And if not, are they really worth the resources? (I can see the argument for them a lot more if those shadows are being cast in real-time over the planet. That can add decent vibe when playing on the ground at least etc. And trebly so if there's an actual gameplay impact re visibility or storms or whatever. But I'm guessing these are just an effect from space.)

Elite toyed with the idea of live gas giant clouds etc, but seemingly never implemented.

Which is probably a good thing at this point. I really doubt anyone would have even notice them move or clock that fact that they had.

I guess planetary clouds have a bit more of a case for them though. Would likely shift appearance more rapidly, and alter the planets look more appreciably between visits to a station or whatever.

We don't really notice cloud's motion from space. On planet's surface we do and we'll do more in 3.12 because of the new cloud's shadow.
Clouds are a big problem for CIG. They need pretty clouds (especially for the floating city Orison) without turning the game into a slideshow from space. Seeing half planet's volumetric clouds from space is not the same has seeing a smal part of them from ground.
