Is there a history of crimes I've committed?

Happily bounty hunting in a haz res (high) when I'm attacked by NPC's which soon ended with me being shot down by security and I have no idea why. The NPC's were trying to rob me so I put up a fight but once I was getting overwhelmed I gave them what they asked for (1t of cargo) but they didn't stop. I then proceeded to shoot at every red target on my radar and it was soon after that that I was killed by security.

I don't have a problem with that but I'm left scratching my head as to what happened. My only guess is that I shot the feds by accident (via crossfire) but as far as I know this doesn't normally result in reply unless attack is sustained and I wouldn't have targeted a green ship. I did have a small 200Cr bounty which I'd had a while and I've been bounty hunting in the same system with it a few times before without an issue so I don't think that was the problem.

So I'm wondering if there is any way I can check what I did wrong?

Do you use turrets or SLFs and ordered them to attack the wrong target maybe?
Could also be friendly fire.

Regarding the 1 ton demand: it only works if you drop before the pirate attacks you.
After that dropping doesn't do anything...

I've only gotten two bounties in my short career in ED. One was for shooting the po po in a Res Extraction site. You MUST wait for the scan to finish on each ship BEFORE you fire on it. Even if the ship turns out wanted, if you shoot before you know it is wanted, you committed a crime and the space po po will hunt you down. I didn't do that.

But what I did do was on a 2k-3k shot I accidentally hit a security ship. So naturally I was considered a pirate at that point the space po po hunted me. Don't shoot the space po po, they are also knuckleheads and will fly right into your line of fire, so watch out for 'clean' ships coming between you and your prey. I did that. Oops. I ran (Cobra III is fast!) and then googled how to clear a bounty on my name, hint interstellar factor.

My only other crime was scanning a non public data source on a planet. Instant fine, Viper III security ship shows up and destroys my SRV. But telepresence to the rescue, I flew away in my ship and paid off the bounty at another interstellar factor...

I am not sure of a historical tool, except maybe Inara or EDSM to view your logs... I will have to look into that.

Was it a Haz Res or High (you mention both)? If high and you are not at least Cordial (I think) with the controlling faction then even the System Security ships will be red on your radar... SysSec take a very dim view of being shot at :ROFLMAO:

I've also got a criminal record

It was probably a stray shot, or you targeted a SysAuth ship by mistake once everyone started shooting. We've all done that one.

Believe it or not, SysAuth is much much better then they used to be about stray shots. It used to be ONE and they'd get all sorts of bent out of shape. Now it can take a few, or a certain amount, before they go nuts.

From STATUS PANEL > SESSION LOG it will show the event simply as CRIME COMMITTED, which is not too helpful.
or from the codex session log does expand on this a little.

Don't think there is more info in-game?

If you use 3rd party tools will show more details.
ie ED Discovery shows the ship targeted and assault / murder bounty and faction.

(edited to add codex session log)

That is a shocker....!

OP - you said you had a small bounty, 200cr. Was that when you went into the Res, or as a result of what happened? If you had it to begin with, you're playing with fire. Otherwise, sometimes security will go red and attack for no reason - I get it a lot when killing mission pirates. Otherwise, the 1t of stuff - was it cargo you already had, or did you pick it up in the ring? If you picked it up in the ring, it will show as illegal and will be illegal - if the filth scans you, they might attack you. It'll tell you in the bottom right of you have any illegal stuff on board, and I suspect this could be what happened. Or you shot a clean miner by mistake. Difficult to conclude without more info. Bad luck mate.

Did you by chance fiddle with your HUD colors. They should be neutral, but not red.
Since * I * fiddled with my HUD colors I have no idea which color that is though
Never fiddled with my colours - I'm fine with the original... Now I'll have to go to a neutral system and grab a screenie!

There we go: In a system where I haven't gained any rep..

I'm not sure you have to wait for your scan to show an NPC as wanted in a resource site anymore. It definitely used to be that way, but I accidently shot one a month or so ago and noticed I didn't get flagged. Since then I've done it a few more times, mostly when I can see system security shooting an NPC. They pop up as wanted as soon as I shoot them and I don't get a fine. Not sure when that mechanic changed.

Thanks all for the replies. If there's no crime history then guess I'll just have to be a bit more careful when there's lots going on around me to think about, plus I've never really been in a similar situation so I was a bit panicky at the time, anything could have happened. I'll check my in-game logs to see if anything can be found there. I appreciate everyone trying to ascertain what may have happened but I wouldn't be able to confirm if anyone is right so I'll be leaving it at that, however, I have replied to some of your responses.

A couple of quick side questions:
Do the feds turn from green to red on the radar when attacking CMDR's?
Does using a Kill warrant Scanner with fast scan modification also speed up the regular scan?

Regarding the 1 ton demand: it only works if you drop before the pirate attacks you.
After that dropping doesn't do anything...
Good to know, this is the first time I've ever given in to their demands. I'm think one of them made an initial demand which I ignored hence their attack, a 2nd made a later demand which is the one I responded to to try and save my butt. I guess it was too late by then.

I've shot fed ships by accident a few times recently without response but yeah, it's possible I shot a clean ship. Would the feds attack me for an unsustained stray shot on a clean ship?

I only mentioned a 'haz res (high)' so yeah it was one of them and I'm 100% allied with the controlling faction in that system. I was doing a massacre mission on a rival faction's members and it was them who tried to rob me (I have 0% rep with them).

If you use 3rd party tools will show more details.

I don't and wouldn't even know where to begin with that site's tools!

I've had the bounty for maybe a month now and since then have visited the very same system to do massacre missions on the same faction's pilots without incident a few times. Happily bounty hunted alongside the feds, using them as support so I didn't think my measly 200Cr bounty was a concern.
