Meanwhile, 20K LY from my location...

Crew: "Sir, first? We're sorry to hear about the 86% FSD integrity. Second? You asked us to jump the carrier to your location, but there's just one problem; we've managed to jump about 3K LY out toward your direction, but now the depot is out of fuel."

CMDR: "So move some of the 12,000T over from general stores."

Crew: "Could you just jump back this way and give us the run through on that again? We don't recall how that's done..."

CMDR: ... [Palm on face]

I always plan ahead.

I plot my Ship to where I'm going & have my Carrier 'in-tow' jumping in 490+ LY jumps along my Ships plotted route. I usually start it's jump when I'm around 250LYs ahead of it, so by the time it jumps, I'm only 2 or 3 jumps behind it & catch it up.
Then I dock, sell my Exploration data, transfer any Platinum/Osmium I'v mined from Mettallic Rings & re-stock my limpets................

..................Oh! & I manually transfer Tritium for my Cargo hold to the Carrier's Tritium depot to keep it at 100%..........because the idle f'kers I pay to do that job can't be ARX'd to do it themselves🤬😤

This is an outrage! ;)

Well, we only have ourselves to blame...

What's the phrase again?... Oh yes, "Pay peanuts, get monkeys"

Upkeep on carriers is so cheap now that the 'crew' we have probably couldn't find their rear end with both hands and a detailed map...

But, they are very, very cheap... 🤷‍♂️

I remember this request among others in the beta. I may have even been the one who created it. Anyway ... lot of good it did.
Other than the carrier costs being adjusted for the better, I can't remember a single other change which was made during the beta. So many "bugs" left in!

Made this back during the beta or soon after I think.

That's how FDev crippled FCs so that they couldn't be remote piloted except for short range hops of <3kly from your location. Obviously, this was initially intended to be much, MUCH less as the initial intent was 500t/500ly so a max of 2 jumps on the Tritium Depot for 1kly max unpiloted range... (aka around the bubble). The relaxation to 125t/500ly has made that 4kly per 1000t depo tank... but this mindset behind the use of FCs remains...

So now that everyone has fulfilled their roles by telling you how you did wrong and how you can work around it, I'll pop in to say I think remote fuel control absolutely should be possible. Given we can tell it to jump remotely, there's absolutely no logical or game-play reason I can think of not to allow refuelling remotely. Perhaps fdev felt it fun to deliberately restrict this (more likely it's to prevent something but I can't imagine what so anyone willing to divulge their official reasoning to me will get a free like). But unless it's a massive exploit blocking reason, I just don't agree with it. Arbitrary limitations aren't fun.

OK, you can all go back to what you do best, guys. Sorry for the interruption.

I do not own a FC, I do want one someday, and hopefully this issue is fixed by then.

I can only guess what FDev's motive for setting it up this way was, like maybe they do not play their own game, and they just do not care. 25k of storage that could be used for tritium, and ZERO ways to transfer any of it, to the main fuel tank, for a crew that can cost up to 25 million or so per week in upkeep.

If this had been my crew in real space OP, here is one way to handle it:

Line the crew up against a bulkhead, Ready, Aim, Fire... next crew please, and when I remotely ask any of you my new crew to please move fuel from the storage to the fuel tank, please be smarter than my last crew and we would try again.

How many crews would you have to go through until they figured out a way to transfer the fuel?

however we know it , it is still, very dumb.
I agree that FC tritium inventory should be linked to the tank somehow

Simple, increase carriers fuel tank size into 25 000 Trit, but leave market and Trit there as it is.

If you still run out of Trit after that, problem is not in the end of FD.

Also a good idea, but I think that would be a bit too much. I'd vote for 4000-5000 tons as a reasonable quantity.

Maybe in a combination with reducing the cargo hold, like using a separate "fueltank service". So every carrier owner could choose
between several options like 1000 t tank + 25000 t cargo & services with manual refueling (actual a stock FC) or 5000t tank + 21000t cargo & services - 1000 t for the additional fuel compartment plus automatic refueling service

Something like that, but just a thought... 🤷‍♂️
