Why FDev.. just why make this game so tedious on purpose?

It's optional entertainment, if you don't have fun you are doing it wrong or playing the wrong game. Personally I still enjoy ED after five years, but then I do pre-purchase research and only buy the sort of video games that suit me.

Not optional if you want to engineer stuff.

A whole two minutes? Couldn’t you have just given us a wall of text to skim instead, I’ve got less important things to do.

Like grinding raw materials on a 0.3g planet?

If you dont enjoy Crystalline Shards, go relog at Bug Killer Anaconda.
Or even better go play something you actually enjoy.
If relogging would make a better gameplay loop. Also could you refrain from telling me what to play and what not. The topic at hand is why there are gameplay mechanics that are deliberately annoying instead of enjoyable (sorry if you enjoy this, other people enjoy cutting themselves so no arguing for me there).

That is just part of the game, if you find it "tedious" well fair enough but that is your opinion, one I do not share.
Also you do know of the turret mode/head-looking to tag targets exists yes? You were being a bit wasteful of your own time by not using them to speed up the whole process yes?

I’ve, quite literally, after 400+ hours never once felt like I had to grind for anything. Well, apart from jumping back from the Norma Expanse, but that was my choice to miss the bus back home. I’ve gathered enough materials from just picking them up through my usual gameplay, to comfortably engineer my main three ships to at least G3 where it counts and I’ve just built an fourth which I could also engineer to at least that level.

Engineerings optional.

Git gud at driving, I like low g planets for geyser jumping.

Relogging is cheating and boring.

The bottom line is that boring people do things the boring way then complain they are mysteriously bored.

I am sorry OP, but you are doing things I've not even seen yet! This is quite a big game and for the price I paid, I feel I am getting good value for my money. I trade, I fight, I explore, I took part in my first CG a week ago or so. I still have engineering to do, I'm doing the PP for the Prismatic Shields, I want to kit a ship for a proper exploration journey in future....it goes on.

Yes, I can find boosting along for 2-3hrs pinging asteroids when core mining a tad repetitive - but even if I have to make 13 jumps to sell them for approx 600,000 each - the return is still good enough to do it (for me anyway).

And that is my point, if something is tedious, why do it? It is up to you to choose what you want to do - if you're doing something tedious, that is your choice isn't it?
If I don't want to do something, then I don't. There are so many things to do in this game (or outside of it), why make a choice you don't like? <O

i can't manage to drive and use turret at the same time but that does not resolve the issue that i need to fetch chunks like a dog. Also you are missing the point. This is not about optimizing a bad gameplay loop. This is a sarcastical way of presenting a gameplay loop (either it is actually bad or not - that is personal opinion and i do not argue personal opinion). You guys could take it with some humour instead of being defensive out of the box.

Not if a non engineered ship can not stand a chance against an engineered ship in open and you get ganked constantly. So should i not play open because it is optional?

see above. Engineering is basically mandatory.

Still not the point. God why are you all so uptight?

Hmmm, a type 3 CMDR: Rush through the game, get bored, moan on here that there's no content, clear off, return occasionally to the forum to complain.
FD need to give a little virtual trophy with "game completed" on it to CMDRs who get to a big ship within a few days, that way they'll think they've won and move on quietly.
