Why FDev.. just why make this game so tedious on purpose?

Im confused about what timeline you still live in. 80s?
Poor child...(I assume you are not an adult by your juvenile remarks) Don't you know it is the 21st Century and we are in the 21st year of it?
But do keep up with the silly remarks, it is almost amusing to read, make more effort and I may even laugh!

I try my hardest to keep my youth. Im probably older than u think.
You can act "cool" all you want but all you show is bein a stuck in the past, with a stick up your butt still, old geezer :D
Your thoughts, decisions, words and behavior all show that.

I can talk with my Son without embarrasing him infront of his friends, they actually like to hang around an older person like me.
Hows your relationship with the youth ?

But to fly really really fast you need to stop and sniff the flowers.. Literally. Thus everyone arrives within the same time.
Would that be like a Porsche screaming past an old Mini on an autobahn, they'd both arrive at the same time because the Porsche takes longer to stop ? - err, nope, he'd be booked into a hotel for some fun with his wife and part way through dinner when the Mini parks up.

Exactly what i am telling the whole time. Where the gently caress am i trolling?

While this thread is an obvious troll its funny how the OP repeatedly describes how inept they are at playing ED.

Starting with the very first post with the video, then riddled throughout. Dude, if your gunna troll at least don't make it so obvious you suck at the game. If getting mats and engineering is so overwhelming for you then obviously this game isn't a good choice for you. 18 pages of you whining. But keep your troll alive!(y)

To me the gentle trolling is in opening such a thread in ED forum, knowing full well that this
will turn into a huge dumpster fire and summon the white knights light brigade.

But I a agree with 80-90% of what you say. The game would be better with less busiwork gameplay loops.

Tedium is too often conflated with difficulty in this forum.

I wouldn't call it trolling initially . Its mocking an otherwise great game for its flaws. I don't have 400 hours logged because don't enjoy the game. But i can make fun of things I like all the same.

That this devolved into butthurt people whining was funny, but i did not think it would be such impactful.

As i said, don't be so uptight when someone jokes about your favorite game.

I love it when old farts tell us they're down with the kids  . You'd better get Alexa to play some Dua Lipa or something in the background, or maybe some drill to keep your cred level up though. I mean really, have a word with yourself.

Nope. The game design is one in which you go for the game experience not for the grind.

The blinkered focus on things is something people overlay on it themselves.

That's exactly why you have the huge discrepancy of experience, and some people don't grind and enjoy the game, whereas some grind and are largely dissatisfied.

It's also why demands to deal with the grind are usually controversial - they're typically framed around the concept that the game design is one in which you grind and it's just set up badly, and the problem therein is that the solution proposed is effectively based on firstly changing the game design to one in which you grind so that that grind can then be reduced. Those proposals are always going to be antagonistic to the people who don't want the game design changing to be one in which you grind.

(Edited for conciseness)
What are you even talking about?

I'm not saying eliminate the grind, I'm saying having a narrative framework (story or mission series) to connect the player to the grind.

If you are saying that this game has no grind you are being obtuse about how progression works in this game.

This is an interesting point, because really early on, elite taught me that the second you hold onto the "goal" elite becomes a complete misery.

I thought this was a well accepted fact.. focus on the spaceship -> elite is amazing. Focus on the goal -> elite is (nerfed) soulcrushing torture.

I find this surprising because elites always been like this. The goals are such a false lead because once you've hit them they're completely empty. The only fun you make in the game is in the moment, and it has to go back there once your goal is over.. so the goals are just evil.

This thread seems to imply there are people who play elite goal oriented... how does that even work? You want to log off in frustration well before writing a forum post.

Its not positive, but frontier are just a bunch of kickstarter devs working on a (1.5 billion dollar) shoestring with this indie space game... you need to white knight them because they're so indie and can't be expected to and must be forgiven for not putting in real content. And that's always coming in the future because they're still working on it because its a kickstarter and they're indie. oh wait. I don't even know anymore.

EDIT: My favourite one from back then was "its not a grind, the content is supposed to last 10 years". Really we're still here?
Are you suggesting that I am a white knight for the game? ;D

Suggesting that Elite is not a goal designed game is not supported by the evidence. Look at the FCs in any populated system. Look at the subscription base for any how to youtuber for this game. Ship acquisition, engineered module acquisition, guardian module acquisition, ship and permit unlocks, etc. etc. are the progression mechanics and they are structurally goal oriented. Goals are not intrinsically "bad" or "evil". The process to achieving those things can be however.

If you are agreeing that more effort could be put into narrative character-based game play then kudos to you!

I am deeply engaged in playing other narrative or survival games atm, but have hopes that Odyssey will be different that ED is now. My best times in ED were playing with friends, grinding - yeah I did it, but not really fun.

So we live in a world where its possible to fly faster than light but not to collect minerals in an efficient large scaled way. Gotcha.

and with this one post you destroyed the last remaining credibility you had
well played. have a biscuit.

Do any laser mining and you will find that your mats will fill up for certain items. Go to mats trader and trade. Next thing you know, you have tons of mats. In addition, go to any geo point of interest to collect mats there and easy to get G4 and G5. Within a couple of hours you can literally fill up, depending on the planet. Again, go and trade. Go to a bio point of interest and same thing, collect all kinds of mats.

Anyone driving around in an SRV using a scanner on a planet surface JUST to farm mats is doing it wrong, unless that is what they want to do, of course. That is definitely grinding and I remember doing that in past, before I got gud.
