I've watched SC from afar with a mixture of fascination, horror, amusement and disbelief. As far as I can tell it's a glorified ponzi scheme...with a space game loosely attached. The thing I find so bizarre about that whole situation is they are still taking in giant wads of cash in the KS, hundreds of millions more than FDev, yet... Still no release.
If it wasn't to create a reasonably release-ready build then what was it for?
It also appears to be some sort of cult, it bears all of the hallmarks. Followers blindly handing over great wads of cash for very little return, promises of gaming nirvana, super aggressive defence of their cult from members who appear in all other respects to be normal, intelligent humans.
There are reports of cult members handing over £50,000+ to RSI for ships that don't exist, virtual land on planets that don't exist. This isn't an investment, they are not share holders, they will get nothing back for that money other than the aforementioned ships and land (if they ever get built)...approaching 9 years of dev time the game is still considered to be in the early alpha stage?
As the article states rather than people walking away because they've had enough funding appears to be accelerating. One thing is for sure, it's a masterful piece of marketing / brainwashing. Stand aside Rev. Mooney, L Ron Hubbard...Chris Roberts can show you how it's done.
