If they just came out and said that was the problem it would help!
Right, it's starting to feel what I'd imagine racial discrimination must feel like. It certainly shouldn't be so openly spouted without regard in the manner that it is, which is to say unmoderated and seeming encouraged....To be honest I get a bit tired of this console beating by entitled and condescending pc gamers who have no clue what they're talking about.
Yes, kill last gen with fire, lay upon thee with a great stern and untrembling voice, 'YOUR VERSION STOPS HERE", we need the ssd to propagate interiors and earthlikes...upgrade or the permit is locked! You didnt get the correct materials to engineer your qualifications. Go see "AMAZON" in the sol system!
Dont be selfish, Think about the greater good of elite and the fact that fdev is slow as molasses on new content. We need not anymore hindrances/ bottlenecks or crutches for them to lean on. Times may be rough but the world doesn't stop spinning. As everything over time will become cheaper and more readily available. I'd rather wait on myself instead of them!Sound, you fancy lending us £500 to get a new console that’s perpetually sold out everywhere then?
There are an awful lot of people out there, myself included, who have lost their jobs due to this global pandemic that simply can’t afford to upgrade to a new system.
If FDev decided to bin off “last-gen” consoles in the current global climate they’d lose a substantial chunk of their player base over night.

Not according to this poster!Backwards compatibility (on PS5) is not a solution. There's already a bunch of stuff that doesn't work apparently.
I have ED on PS4 too (despite being a primary PC player) and would like to be able to join in Odyssey with that too.The PS5 is fully backwards compatible (i think there are less than 10 obscure ones that don't work) with PS4. I'm not sure what you all are talking about.

PS5 in the UK appears to be equally elusive too...Further to my point, this is the current state of Next-Gen console availability in the UK/US
...
Maybe when Odyssey drops towards the end of the year the new consoles will actually be readily available for purchase by which time Frontier will actually have the free time and resources to work on the Next-Gen version.
But until then the current gen will do just fine as it has done for years.
Can we have a discussion with Frontier please, an honest one that deals with how much the release is being held back by trying to get Odyssey to work on old gen consoles?
Stuff I’d really like answered (from fdev not just people speculating.. but without input that’s all we get I suppose)
1. Is the massive delay on consoles due entirely to trying to fit an ever expanding game onto old hardware?
2. Do Fdev plan to optimise odyssey and the base game for consoles in those extra 6 months or just get them working?
3. Is dropping support for old gen consoles being considered (this is likely to enrage but we deserve openness if it’s what is being planned)
4. Will there be a graphically better version of Odyssey for latest gen consoles which will easily handle the upgraded additions to Elite?
I would dearly like to hear some answers from fdev because they are the only ones that know but feel free to chime in anyway.
Additionally it is shocking and painful we have to wait till what I can only assume will be Christmas to play Odyssey.. a month or two wait I can easily handle but that sort of extension does sort of speak to a hitherto unannounced problem other than COVID .. otherwise the extension to the deadline would be similar to the pc release. Some frank info would help. Hence this post. Thanks in advance.

(Of course, the few who managed to win the lucky-dip allocation so far are going to be making a lot of noise, unsurprisingly)
FDev have already stated that they have no plans to move onto the new gen consoles yet as it would mean redoing all the hard work they’ve spent on the last few years of Odyssey development.
^^ 6 month at the very least
I would just like some communication with fdev on the topic.
There are such a lot of issues that the community has suffered with and waited patiently to have fixed or waited for info on that it’s really been testing a lot of people’s patience and then being told you’ll have to wait over 6 months without a clear breakdown as to why on top of all the other frustrations we’ve just had to bottle for years has led to a deep sense of resentment building up. Which could I might add be relieved a little by some open frank communication. Look how it helped on the situation with VR! Once they came out and said that it was impossible and promised a work around it was much easier to stomach and the anger dissipated.
I would like the 4 main points addressed that I started with but additionally I want to know what the plan is to not split the player base.. there are ways around this and I firmly believe if fdev bring us onboard we can help each other reach solutions or at the very least release some of the frustration that has built up for years of being patient and not receiving helpful info.
A case in point - cargo not ejecting from megaships, just to choose one of the thousands upon thousands in the issue tracker. It has been documented, it has been cited on, it has been raised multiple times on streams and in forums. It has not even been acknowledged and any time a CM has replied it’s “raise it in the issue tracker” well what do you think we did??
Anyway my point is not the cargo ejection or the lag or any individual thing. I want frontier to see that it would be beneficial for both sides if there was a little more flow of communication as to why these things are or aren’t happening.
Some clarity on where we all stand would help, starting with the 4 points I raised at the beginning.
Same everywhere in EU,physical shops have "any", online lottery....we all know what's it aboutPS5 in the UK appears to be equally elusive too...
