I'm not fussed either way if they put them in or not but I laughed when I saw this on Sky news. It made me think of all those who don't want these "magical" lasers as opposed to the "magical" jump drive engines they have in this futuristic space game.
Looks like in real life we will have full tractor beam technology before we manage to travel faster than light.
From my read of the article that tractor beam requires an atmosphere and works by selectively heating the object to provide propulsion. It's not going to work in a vacuum and some pilots might object to being "heated" with a laser!
