Ship Name Censoring Games

o7 Cmdrs!

A little while ago, I built a neat little addition to my AX fleet, a Mamba, and notably for myself it was an exciting first as it is my first and only ship build without shields. I love it. I took it out for a few spins against the Thargoids and I decided to give her the to my mind apt and beautiful name "Stellar Attitude".

Now...
It was pointed out by one of my squad mates that they could not identify my ship's newly found and cherished name as it was censored out with asterisks. Discussions ensued. I was mildly puzzled at first, thinking it might be one of the numerous glitches and bugs we encounter on a daily basis and no, I do not reference Thargoids in this case, thinking maybe it's a glitch in the squad pilot roster. Sadly, it is not and even when encountering the "Stellar Attitude" in space it is not possible to know her name and gasp in awe because of it.
A little testing with splitting the apparently offensive name into either "Stellar" and "Attitude" brought to light that the offense was quite literally contained within the "Attitude".
I have an idea why that would be the case and I believe it is connected with the areas of female mammals that contain the mammary glands, as three letters contained in the word might be thought of as a reference to the aforementioned areas.

coughs and tries REALLY hard not to trigger any filters

I mean, seriously. At-t.i.t-ude is censored presumably because, you know... I do not dare spell it out on its own! o_O

Quick background info, I'm a German native speaker. Apparently I needed a new word for the German "Haltung" which most commonly translates into "attitude" in English. I thought about it and didn't come up with anything I like. So I asked my trusted online dictionary. The thing is, how these things go, they spit out translations for a looooot of different contexts.
Turns out, one of the possible translations is "erectness". A quick check with the ingame ship name filter showed that this is absolutely no problem at all, though I have to admit that this references not an inner attitude or "Haltung", but instead a body posture or "Körperhaltung".
Well.
Be it as it may, my AX ship is now named "Stellar Erectness" in protest of the insert non-offensive adjective here content filter.

Make of that what you want.

But can we please have #Attitude in this game? That would be nice.

TL;DR: I'd like to very much emphasize that "Stellar Erectness" is very much my second choice in ship names and I really would like to be able to name it after its original name which is "Stellar Attitude".

I have indeed not, thanks for pointing that out. Then again, if it's not the t-word, what other reason might there be? I'm slightly at a loss here but welcome any, even possibly humorous, suggestions ;)

Besides a paste mishap I'm not sure what else could cause it either, but ya never really know when you're talking about someone else's code.

Most online videogames (even some offline like Outer Worlds) have a notepad file of blacklisted offensive words the player cannot use. Some of the lists are quite thorough, filtering obscure insults and words for private parts that haven't been in use since the 18th century. Gotta love the inventiveness of about 1/2 of our carrier owning CMDR's though. They'll make your granny blush without even tickling the filter.

Best ship name ever! When those bars/pubs open up, you’re going to have your pick of the litter 😎

Put in a support ticket and in a few days, they may uncensor the name for you. My first Anaconda was named "Tainted Love", the name was censored. I put in a ticket and they fixed it for me a few days later. The filter they use is aggressive, but they seem willing to uncensor on request providing it's not actually offensive.

I remember this in Eve Online forums where parts of words would trigger a censor. We had a game with space ships and we couldn't use the word cockpit because the first 4 letters triggered the censoring bot.
It was really amusing since a lot of the words often used in the game triggered it, so the forum was littered with '[censored]' and you had to guess what the word was. :) It became something of a forum game to make up a sentence and have others guess what you said.

I played another game (free to play) which censored all sorts of words to try to stop goldspammer ads in chat. It didn't stop them, but it did stop all of us using chat as it rejected almost everything you wrote (it didn't just censor the word, but rejected the whole sentence). They even stopped us from typing web addresses at one point. Auto censor have a big problem with context and therefore will censor stuff willy nilly.

Edit: I am surprised it let me use the word "willy" without censoring :)

Anyone named their ship after the town they come from?
Residents of Scunthorpe in particular.
Scunthorpe is usually the first word I think of related to online profanity filters, then therapist. I think Scunthorpe even used to be censored on the forum, so I was surprised to see it here.

I'm currently out in The Void, and recently visited the DSSA Hope Dempsey. That was censored, and I still can't figure out what the trigger is.

My carrier's name is "Annie's B**". Was always suspecting that other players just see asterisks ;-)

So sad.. Thanks, Obama!

Problem is that the censor catalogue does not cross-check with a dictionary to exempt valid words from the filtering process. Guess Fdev saved there on CPU cycles and server calls.
