Probably have the same word filter turned on with the bookmarks, maybe with original intention to have custom titles for them?

Pretty sure I have picked up missions to there without noticing any censoring.
I still admit I kinda appreciate having some control over them - having the majority of FCs in system named F*** Canoe (this wasn't caught by the filter) or C*** Boat ruins muh immersion.

I'm not a fan personally of any kind of censorship, however I wish some people named their own ships with some level of maturity.
Try naming your ship after the Japanese nuclear PPs that melted a few years ago after an earthquake. That's most likely a nono. At least it becomes ushima hereo7 Cmdrs!
A little while ago, I built a neat little addition to my AX fleet, a Mamba, and notably for myself it was an exciting first as it is my first and only ship build without shields. I love it. I took it out for a few spins against the Thargoids and I decided to give her the to my mind apt and beautiful name "Stellar Attitude".
Now...
It was pointed out by one of my squad mates that they could not identify my ship's newly found and cherished name as it was censored out with asterisks. Discussions ensued. I was mildly puzzled at first, thinking it might be one of the numerous glitches and bugs we encounter on a daily basis and no, I do not reference Thargoids in this case, thinking maybe it's a glitch in the squad pilot roster. Sadly, it is not and even when encountering the "Stellar Attitude" in space it is not possible to know her name and gasp in awe because of it.
A little testing with splitting the apparently offensive name into either "Stellar" and "Attitude" brought to light that the offense was quite literally contained within the "Attitude".
I have an idea why that would be the case and I believe it is connected with the areas of female mammals that contain the mammary glands, as three letters contained in the word might be thought of as a reference to the aforementioned areas.

I mean, seriously. At-t.i.t-ude is censored presumably because, you know... I do not dare spell it out on its own!
Quick background info, I'm a German native speaker. Apparently I needed a new word for the German "Haltung" which most commonly translates into "attitude" in English. I thought about it and didn't come up with anything I like. So I asked my trusted online dictionary. The thing is, how these things go, they spit out translations for a looooot of different contexts.
Turns out, one of the possible translations is "erectness". A quick check with the ingame ship name filter showed that this is absolutely no problem at all, though I have to admit that this references not an inner attitude or "Haltung", but instead a body posture or "Körperhaltung".
Well.
Be it as it may, my AX ship is now named "Stellar Erectness" in protest of the insert non-offensive adjective here content filter.
Make of that what you want.
But can we please have #Attitude in this game? That would be nice.

TL;DR: I'd like to very much emphasize that "Stellar Erectness" is very much my second choice in ship names and I really would like to be able to name it after its original name which is "Stellar Attitude".
As a native English speaker may I suggest Stellar Erection has greater magnificence than Erectness. It would also tally with our Benny Hill/Carry On cultural innuendo .... maybe that’s what FDev encourage over outright naughtiness.

I like that idea, I have to admit. My immediate assumption though would be that "erection" might pose a case for the filter too but I might try it later just for science. It would deviate from my plan to stick at least with some possible translation/tangent of/to "attitude" though.I also very much agree with Linnunrata's opinion, having met people, especially on the internet, I think it's a good idea to have a naughty-word blacklist of some sort. That would also help with AngryAntz' grandkids' new inventions if it's updated every now and then
How the filter in-game works irks me, though. Btw please keep in mind that it is my assumption that "attitude" gets filtered for the three letter word, since it was the only solution that made sense to me but I have to admit I don't know it.Oh, and I really enjoyed reading it also filters system names in bookmarks, if "necessary"
The ship name censors in this game are honestly annoying. Friend had a ship named Montana that got censored. To this day we can't figure out why.
That's an easy one. It was almost "anal".

Doubtful. Having a filter that scans words for partial sets of letters from banned words would censor nearly everything, on top of being a very bloated function. But this is FD, so I suppose it isn't doubtful.
My favourite was the profanity filter in one popular MMORPG where you couldn't write " i" (Finnish word for bag or pouch), because... well, because it's obscene! In that game you can turn off the filter tho.

Yeah, I will probably contact Fdev support about it.... although I'm growing more fond of the new name by the hour. Chuckled to myself a few times during the day today about the whole thing
