Starport Tour - Q&A Quick Notes

You may have missed the easter egg:
This was a nice touch..

Definitely agree about the transporter pad being a bit of a cop out. Couldn't you go up to the door at least for the ships that have them built in? It may be a bit funny to walk past the stairs door that does nothing and go to the blue pad.
Yep, agreed - should walk up the stairs, to the door, or ladder, and then have the teleport transition from there. While I'm not one of the "ship interiors" criers, anything to make it feel just that bit more immersive would be nice. Alternatively why bother with that blue portal at all, just have a wrist-unit/visor menu item to board your ship whenever you're close enough to the ship.

Thanks for the summary/write-up.

Yep, just after the video turns away from it. Thinking about it, it looks very rough, it has a y/n prompt with looks out of place.. but the question would be why would they have this in the first place if not for multiple cmdrs per account? No comment about what they're going to do for existing people who have already bought multiple accounts :/ And multiple cosmetics...
It's a throw-back to the original Elite, the title screen had "Load New Commander Y/N" on it. (Y - load Commander, N - start new game).

Subtly different wording here - "Load New Ship Commander Y/N" - implying : "Load (buy) a new ship, Commander?"

EDIT: And, of course, this was mentioned by various other people already..

[*]Over 800 music tracks for the bars [26m50s]
[/LIST]

800 soundtracks is a huge amount. It should be put to better use by adding a disco, club area.

Arthur making case for teleport transition into ship being good for gameplay, compared to prolonged traversal to cockpit.

It would be more immersive, enjoyable to stand on a lift/elevator press a button to reach the ship door after a few seconds. Also stairs or an escalator.

Turbolift to hangar is super quick

The speed is great, but does it teleport the player to the hangar or physically go there?

'Dynamic' chat between NPCs [25m30s]

Do NPCs also leave to go sleep or exit the station after a while? It's odd to see NPCs in the same spot 24/7.

First 100 times. Now I'm getting mad when station drives me down to rotate before take off. That's why I hang on carrier - it doesn't :D

I don't think it beams you up, it just marks place to stay. Same "beam" you can see for SRV.
The SRV "beam" is different because that is the actual hatch for the SRV bay. It literally has the animation of the SRV being loaded back into your ship, and THEN you fade-to-black to your cockpit seat. That's why I said it would be better if the fade-to-black was at the top of the stairs/ladder - that would make it as close to the SRV mechanic as possible. Whereas this is just.. what it is.

How often you drive srv? Once a week?
And how often people will have to board for example to rented shuttle? It will be like 50 times/day for normal play. So any delay here will lead to cries. People already are mad flying SC for 2 mins.

Trust me, soon you will see topics - we need shorter ways from lifts to hangar bay :D

P.S. I think I will sit on some low gravity planetary base, just because it seems to have less of those animations.

and did you miss the part where shuttles take realtime to fly to a destination? another reason why that "its more traditional" comment is just a load of :poop:

The srv at least goes to it's entrance/exit point and either descends/ascends. It would be the same as you walk to the bottom of your ship's stairs/ladder and start to climb then fade to black transition. It's current iteration is lazy asf plain and simple. Hopefully they'll be flooded with dislike for this choice by alpha and beta testers until they fix it. But this 'not really trying' approach is annoying because no one else is doing this in the same capacity. I think that's the real problem. Anything else, that is a finished/released game, isn't even close to being competition imo. I think this level of security has made them lazy as they really don't have to worry about losing too many fans.

I mean think about it. If you end up thinking NMS is a better game that you'd rather play, ED wasn't the game for you in the first place. Too bad this is such a foreign concept. We'd have less forum undead with ideas on how to convert ED to whatever trash ED wannabe they'd prefer it to be like.

Which is why I said, alternatively, just let us board our ships when we are close enough. There's literally no point to that arbitrary blue marker UNLESS it is at the door, so may as well make the entire area around the ship the marker.

And yeah, I can also see people wanting to have a "board ship" button in the concourse level to byoass the lift and walking up to the ship part.

Nah...I would love to walk inside ship, but not on everyday basis. Maybe year later they will sell something for ARX "walk your cabin". But as part of game loop - I hate those immersion walks. Makes me mad using freighter in NMS too - takes 2 full "run" charges to get to ship or to place where u can save urself. So much time wasters. They have teleports on bases but not on freighter.
