Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Getting the CryEngine's notoriously hilarious netcode to run over the internet for 40-50 players is quite the achievement though. For certain definitions of "run".

CryEngine's networking was literally made just to show it could "do" multiplayer over LAN. Was never designed to run over the internet.

Just watch Gary Whitta series of interview with both and you get very much this.

One already have thought out, the other is making things up as words get out of his mouth.

People keep forgetting that David Braben is a Star Citizen backer, the same as the idiot Roberts is an Elite kickstarter backer. Very interesting video describing the concept of both games through kickstarter ;)

Oh no! Anyway....
Last year I got flak in spectrum for suggesting that this would happen… a prison system where you can either buy your way out or just play a static jumping puzzle (that have been solved already with video guides an all)… ROFL

I wonder if DB had known what would happen with the development of SC if he would have been so willing to back though? Still, for DB, a starter ship is something he could buy with the loose change in his pocket.

It's not like he was coerced into it or anything...just showing developer support for a project in the same genre as his own despite being very different. Being the co-creator of the game that started it all and which inspired so many young developers and programmers entering into the industry...like the idiot Roberts... as well as many, many others to go do something similar has it's benefits. Absolutely nobody inside or outside of the industry looks at DB and thinks, "Muppet"...CR, not so much :D

Arguably Star Citizen is marketed as a released playable game while at the same time being full of caveats at the end about it being a playable Alpha with no refunds added as an afterthought for legal reasons after the mental buy-in has happened by watching the flashy videos and lack of 'not in-game footage' tags all the way through.

Hey, can’t add a half-functional launchable fighter for one ship, and trolleys, every patch. Back to assets it is...

(I’m all for cloud cities tbh. But when I look at this I just see a shopping mall for some reason...)
A shopping mall with no associated gameplay, content or working subsystems. It's a visual asset...which in order to include it, Ci¬G will have to cull something else substantial from the current in game content. I suspect port Olisar will get the hoof for some reason...don't know why. Maybe through reasoning that adding Orison as a landing/spawning area in Crusader close orbit will make port Olisar irrelevant and absolete...being that it's the oldest in game asset, it was the first (and only) physical landing/spawning area when Ci¬G opened up the PU back in 2015/2016... and it's also set in Crusader orbit :)

That sounds a good bet. Olisar was never meant to be there anyway... plus it’s way too convenient ;)

(I could almost believe CIG have hired genuine shopping mall designers. Getting people into that addled 'oh god let’s just go here / buy that' shopping fugue is an art form. Maybe they’ll sell a peripheral that pipes fresh bread smells into your room when you’re near the donut bar next? ;))

I can remember when Olisar was the PU...before Covalex, Grim Hex, the Yela rings...everything :D

There was a rumour that Olisar was set for destruction a couple of years back...via the same Xenothreat incursion into Stanton that we ended up sampling a very cut down and expurgated version of recently. Perhaps they'll spin the rumoured '9 tails lockdown' event into something that leads to Olisar's demise...they've got to remove something to add Orison and basically...unless they start deleting moons... Olisar is the only thing left. It's old code, it took them 2 years to get the rings spinning on it instead of being static...it's also been removed as one of the default spawning locations, we haven't been able to set it as an initial spawn area since the 3.8 persistence patch.
