I'm currently talking almost without any crutches. Is this very embarrassing?

Existential crisis?May I should change the -NO VR- tag into -ACTIVE DREAMER-. I still have one or two changes left...

Maybe it is just my luck but stuff like system chat often seems either inane or boring. And can't say I'm too impressed by the EDO social hubs with wax faced CMDRs zipping about...Was really nice to go to Jameson memorial and chat to someone random
Yes agreed, but this is only one aspect. As for me, I'm kindaoffensiveactive dreamer and interacting with non dreamers usually destroys this fragile bubble. This goes far beyond any pew pew shenanigans...
It might be different if multi crew had anywhere near the functionality that it needs to be playable.Frontier is probably seeing similar statistics and this explains why most of the stuff in Odyssey prioritizes the single-player experience first. This is just me guessing, of course. ^.^
How some players manage to engage in 4 v 4 wing fights is beyond me.
One "M" in "MMO" is supposed to stand for "massively". A game where you can only instance with up to a dozen other people can't be called that. The biggest problem with ED is the fact that the "MMO" part is completely half baked and not very compelling.
Single player games have numerous advantages over multiplayer games (adjustable difficulty, mods, tailored experiences, save flexibility, pausing, more flexible content, etc)...... so multiplayer games have to actually have compelling multiplayer features and content to overcome that. If they don't it's much better if the game is simple a single player game with Co-op or something (if you must have some kind of multiplayer). Forcing what is essentially a single player game to be a multiplayer game has forced ED to take on many downsides and it does a poor job of taking advantage of the upside of multiplayer games.
Add it to fleet carrier services too. It's great while you wait for jumps and routing for other cmdrs while on a carrier tripIf FDev introduced cross play between consoles at least, or consoles and PC ideally, then I’d play more online, but as a console cmdr , unless I’m in Jameson or a CG there is literally zero point as there are literally zero players to interact with. Adding cross play across all platforms would enrich the game for everybody: it’s like tumbleweed at the moment.

After reading this thread, I realize that there are many fundamental differences between the majority of Commanders who have replied in this thread and the average PvPer.
1. Not all PvPers are gankers.
2. PvPers usually are Not Role Players. They are technicians who value skill in flying, especially fa off. To PvPers, this game is another form of CSGO, Overwatch, etc. but with the truly unique mechanic of Elite Dangerous' flight model. The flight model is really of great depth yet at the same time fun! It shines in fixed weaponry combat in dense asteroid fields and takes months if not years to master. I suspect many non PvP Commanders do not have the patience for fa off combat.Strangely, I find that skill is marginalized by the greater community because skill is associated with ganking. (Hence the term CareBear arose: https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Care Bear)
3.PvPers don't care about dying. Most of us have billions in rebuys because believe it or not, we spend a great deal of time killing each other. Many PvPers, because they are not role players, find it mystifying that people get so upset about dying in a video game. Most of the Elite Dangerous player base seem to readily accept being killed by NPCS, draconian orbital rules like pad loitering, toast racks, etc. However, upon clicking Open, some, not all, get enraged when shot at by a human. How dare that human not share the same set of belief systems as me in this pretend video game! Their rage is then directed at all PvPers.
4. There is a generational and cultural gap between PvPers and the majority of the player base. I am 55 and one of the oldest. Most PvPers are between 16-30. The best pilots are usually in that age group. When I first started interacting with the youngsters, I literally had to google every other word. PvP discord conversation usually consists of less than five words at a time. They speak in memes and cuss a lot. So yeah, I was kinda put off at first, but then I got used to it. It can be very amusing... at times.

The truth is if your ship have a good build, and have a minimum of competence, you can't be ganked in this game, or exploded in a way that feel OOC.2. On getting enraged by being shot by a human: I think you haven't fully plumbed the effect of RPing. If I'm being "a real space pilot" and I get exploded by someone in a way that feels OOC, I haven't lost the game; I've been prevented from playing the game I wanted to play. I haven't just lost credits, I've lost RL leisure time (which is often in short supply). Personally I know this is always possible and I'm relaxed about it, but I think that's why some get cross.
Well, no, that's not how I see it. Notice that I said "real space pilot", not "incredible space pilot". I also mentioned that I know I'm rubbish at combat, so no-one needs to demonstrate that to me.The truth is if your ship have a good build, and have a minimum of competence, you can't be ganked in this game, or exploded in a way that feel OOC.
That's why people are so angry. They're rping as a "incredible space pilot", but then they are reminded that they are not. And it hurt their ego a lot.
Shooting at unengenired npc in a big ship may makes people feel that they are good at the game, but it doesn't teach them to be good at all.
Look at the last post in the pvp subforum. It's not about "how to become better". It's about "give a build to counter x so I can just jump in it and win".
I'm not sure people actually attacking villages or transports in Africa are sending a notification with greatings and explanations before. It will feel OOC if they just attack for no reason with no comms or with OOC chat.
