Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

I have no clue. Anyway I prefer the shotgun to the face method. I'm getting better at it :)

I am still looking for my G3 shotgun.

After the tick, I found a G3 AR-50 (but it has the long range mod, which is stupid for this weapon), a G3 Dominator (which has the extra O2 mod). Given that you cant remove mods, I dont think I want to upgrade this two but wait for something longer term.

I also found a G2 Dominator (with damage resistance mod, which is good) but dammit its G2.

The search continues.

Today I have done a lot of things. Among those: Went to see the Horsehead Nebula, back from the dark. Btw. you can now tweak gamma much more.

Then I found a neutron star and tried to fly into the marshmallow. It's beautiful and hot in there. Used the jets to supercharge the FSD and jumped 235 ly to an old bookmark, that turned out to be a small green nebula. Beautiful system. Found a nice dune planet with a sandy surface so smooth that it was shiny from space. Great for running flat out, with occasional ramps. Good times :alien: Tomorrow will be geyser time.

(I wonder if you can deep fry these?)

Add eggs and bacon, fried bread, tomatoes, sausages and black pudding. I'll help eat it with you! :D

I think... I think my FPS is up on foot since the patch. Anyone else think so?

Absolutely everything fps seems up out here in the green. It's a great update. If they can continue that next week it will be excellent. It's good to be back (in VR). Also as I wrote I recommend playing with the gamma adjustment as a temporary solution to anyone having problems with the darkness

Seeing them repair all sorts of things is great. I just wonder when they're going to get to the minor stuff. And I'll be once again able to use my mouse wheel for scrolling through screens, for example.
But yeah, they really did put their heads down.

Greetings!

I arrived at the Synaisa sector, 31000 LY from the bubble. I am now beginning the work of exploring previously undiscovered systems. I am focusing on the ones that are at least 2700 LY above the galactic plane. I plan to stay there for a while and then head to Mare Orientalis.

The last 47 jumps before arriving were basically chain neutron jumping, and virtually all of the neutrons were first discovered by me. I note that neutrons and black holes seem to be abundant in the galactic ceiling or cellar.

The views from the systems near the galactic top, in my opinion, are impressive-particularly from the ground. Here are some shots from a system 2790 LY above the galactic plane. The main star and two planets were already discovered by another commander, but the rest were not, so I scanned them and claimed first footfall on the one shown below. In the Synaisa system, stars are easily reachable up to around 2850 LY above the plane with a 75.2 LY Anaconda . Higher than that and it's jumponium and neutron star assist time.

The white stuff is the Milky Way.

The view from above the valley where the trees were found.

Navigating through the top of the galactic plane is virtually the same as navigating through the extreme galactic rim. It requires jumponium to reach the farthest places, and is just as sparse regarding star density. Even more care is required in the galactic ceiling than in the rim.

In the galactic rim, there are plenty of scoopable stars so, as long as you have jumponium your risk of getting stuck is minimal. In the galactic ceiling, there are lots of unscoopable stars (especially neutrons) and the distances between systems can be large if you are attempting to reach the highest stars (the non FC exclusive ones). Keeping the fuel tank as full as possible in the galactic ceiling is very important, and so is having plenty of jumponium. In contrast, keeping the fuel tank half empty in the galactic rim is very useful to maximize range (again, there are plenty of scoopables).

I will continue with the exobiology work later today. There are several planets with biological signals.

This new feature of the Galaxy Map is mighty convenient. I just found out about it the other day, and I like it.

There's a little "My Active Missions" popup that you get by clicking the blue globe. It lists all your active missions. But the best part is that if you click and hold on one of the missions, it will automatically plot a course to where that mission needs you to be, such as a settlement or station or planet. It will do this even if you've never been into the target system and cannot actually see the system map yet. When the mission is complete, it will plot your course back to the turn-in station.

I've been using this constantly since I discovered it, so I'm passing it on :)

Found another IM3. Dispatched a bunch of nasties. Ship came down and deployed reinforcememts so I let blast with another salvo of missiles. There was one sniper left. Had to jiggle around a lot as he was hitting my ship and taking the shields out quite effectively. Eventually blew him away.

Got lots of bounties. However, when I landed, there were only two bodies. Odd. So I scanned them and they had "bounty detected" on them. Presuming I can hand that in.

Anyway, the three containers and crates were bursting with goodies so I swiped the lot :D

Bodies seem to despawn when you disembark, even from the SRV. It looks very strange to see several bodies in front of you, then get out of the SRV and they are gone.

Perhaps it's intended that you can't hand-scan bodies you killed with a vehicle? I don't know, but I agree it's odd.

I had a wild mission yesterday.

It was a simple and low-paying "restore power" mission, which usually don't require combat. In this case, however, a bunch of raiders dropped in as soon as the power came on, and I hadn't looted the base yet. To make matters worse, although I had full access to the base (and they didn't) I was trapped in an Access 2 area where the only exit was a corridor that was free-access. When I looked out, there were several enemies all blocking my path.

I don't like fighting in the Mav suit that much, cuz the shields aren't that good, but I had no choice. I wound up ducking in and out of the secure room and slowly blasting them away. I ran out of ammo before they were gone and I had to sprint out past the last couple guys, get more ammo, and then finish them off. It was considerably more dangerous than those missions usually are :) However, I did get to scan all the bodies. Each one had a fairly substantial bounty (for foot-based combat anyway). You sure don't get rich doing these new missions, though. They pay terribly. It's all about the mats.

AFAIK you can't be blocked inside a building, even if you don't have access.

If you search the the side walls in the airlock, there is an access panel (similar to the one outside, only smaller) that you can cut and overload the socket inside.
Provided you have the Maverick, which you had.

Nice story, though. It's about the stories, too! Not just mats. :)
