Predicting the remaining dlc content

If that’s directed at me, I have NEVER said that Europe does not deserve a dlc. Please do not misrepresent what my argument is.
If I didn't @ you, I didn't mean you in person. It's a bad habit among a lot of forum users lately (as far as I know none of them being european) bashing europe as a potential dlc candidate, so it wouldn't make sense to make a list.

Hmm, the River Otter is not a reskin of the Giant Otter ? The Alligator is not a reskin of the Saltwater Crocodile ? The California Sea Lion is not a reskin of the Grey Seal (for this one I’m not 100% sure, but you know what I mean) ?
No, no, and no. There's literally only one reskin in the game right now, and that's the Malayan tapir (because it's literally a Baird's tapir with a new skin). "Reskin" doesn't mean "animal that belongs to the same evolutionary lineage". A reskin is taking an existing animal, painting it a different colour, and calling it new. All of the animals you listed, especially the sea lion, would require major changes to existing models.

Otter and alligator would probably use the existing rigs, but they would have to edit the models so they would not be simple reskins.

As for the sea lion, it would require new rig and animations, as it moves/behaves WAY different than a seal. The thing is as far from a reskin as it possibly could.

In this thread at least the most I've seen is that Monk and I think a 4+1 pack is probably better for Europe than a 7+1 pack, mostly because a number of European species have a broad range across Asia and North America (wolverine, moose, wolves, bears, and so on). Whereas a 4+1 pack would at least provide more focus on some of Europe's more unique species, such as the ibex or Iberian lynx or something.

Yeeeeaaah, I know you’re right, I’m working in the videogame industry, it’s an abusive langage to say « reskin ». With this game, it’s not only changing texture. BUT you’ve understand what everybody means ! It’s something that reuse the same rigs, the same animations, the same behavior and have, visually, mainly the same visual shape (we love to have various type of animals).
Btw if you’ve a better word than « reskin » it could be cool !
But it doesn’t erase the problem I think.

In the end, I know what you mean, the otter and alligator would probably behave very similarly as their existing counterparts. But they are also very well requested animals, so Frontier has to make a compromise between unique, new animals types and not so unique, but heavily requested ones.

I too would rather see some more unique animal than say a leopard. Because I know it will behave like any other cat in game, even if in real life that is not the case, but realistically, it would in game be maybe like a jaguar with some unique enrichment animations if we are lucky. But just look at the meta wishlist, its one of the most requested animal, so we have to accept that.

Do you think the leaks are credible ?
My gosh, Sea Otter would have been sooooo cute and cool, imagine their babies on their bellies :’( ...

I'd say you're definition is too broad. If we're talking about rigs and animations then the Bactrian camel is a reskin of the zebra. Apples and oranges.

Honestly I'm kind of tired of certain choices being slammed as "reskins". I mean, what do people want? What animals are left that are both iconic and wouldn't bear some passing resemblance to animals already in the game? If you think a sea lion is a reskin of a seal, then I guess we don't need any more monkeys, or cats, or dogs.

At this point we'll have a pack with the platypus in it and that's it. I nearly added the echidna, but I'm sure that would be a "reskin" of the giant anteater.

Not sure about it. The first half about the african probs looks true, but the leaker might as well know someone who had early accesss to the dlc, and the other part might be fake...but its hard to tell at this point.

I would also love sea otters, still waiting till some talented modder make one. Tbh the current NA river otter mod is Frontier quality, hoping the author will also make a sea otter one day.

That’s why I’ve talked about about visual shape of the animal (+ no, the Bactrian Camel has not the same rig, the same bones, the same animations and the same behavior than the Zebra). We need various animals animal shapes in the game, that’s all what I mean.

(And yes, that’s the reason why, personnally, I’m not a big fan to have, again, hundreds of new feline/bear species.)

Don't want to derail the topic here, but I don't agree on that being better. To me it isn't important if any european animal is also found on another continent, as long as it is very common in europe. I'd rather have NA reserved for animals that are more NA specific. Racoons, sea lions, you name it.

May someone point me to the leaks that are being discussed ?
I think I cant point you directly to the 4Chan, where the leak was posted, but they are screenshots of it in this thread:

We've had many of these "leaks" already, and some of them actually made sense.
This one though, doesn't look very believable to me. A second version of the Aquatic pack but only with North American animals? Kinda too niche if you ask me and, if true, they would have to include a bunch of terrestrial NA animals in other DLCs down the line. I don't imagine PZ without puma and moose before official support ends.

Exactly my thoughts. And to be honest, I would riot if they'd do the north american river otter and not the asian small clawed otter. Orientate on what s kept more in zoos, Frontier, PLEASE!

I don’t really want to get back into it, but why do you want the NA pack to be NA specific but the Europe pack to be species with a broad distribution outside Europe?
