Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

I try and play SC every patch, because people always go "have you played it recently?!?"

It's always the same. Grouping is a nightmare, the control scheme is a nightmare, crashes are frequent, framerate is atrocious, desync is terrible, bugs are everywhere; it's been four years since I was told "I need to play it to critique it" and it's still just as bad as it was back then.

I don't know what to tell you...

Right click friend from main menu, invite to party, leader clicks persistent world. I do it on a weekly bases.

I mean, yeah maybe if the server is full you might have to organise your group a little but like I said, shall I detail the 2 hours my friend and I spent trying to get multicrew working in ED before giving up?

Maybe this needs to be at the top of every single page in every single thread about Star Citizen across every corner of the internet:

Just because X game is bad, doesn't make Star Citizen any better.

Except, again... when it comes to my group playing on our ship together it IS better.

Right click friend from main menu.
Invite to party.
Leader clicks persistent world.
Pick Mission, click share.

You can't even share missions in ED, don't even get me started on multicrew.

And what if your leader is already playing with friends? They are already mid mission? How long is it going to take for me, who just logged on, to meet up with them? Or to actually do that mission with them if they need help?

Then it'll still be a damn sight better than spending 2 hours trying to get multicrew working before giving up because your friend rage quits or we notice that no one is getting the kill counts for Odyssey kills carried about by the friend that brought and SRV into combat.

Sure getting into a group in ED is easy, then what? Can't share missions, no team missions for Odyssey, for some reason one person isn't showing up for the group but they can see everyone, player 2 gets stuck in a never ending FSD screen when the Type 9 jumps to the next system, when they come back they are on the planet we left behind 2 jumps ago... I can go on...

I'm not trying to sell SC or even make others play it, OR even defend its business practice. I'm simply saying my friends and I enjoy it and it's only getting better.

er okay, I won't. Glad that was nice and simple to clear up.

Welllll, you did. Someone discussed the slow completion of the current solar system. The backdrop to this is that secondary systems are around 3yrs+ late now, based on the 3.0 roadmap series, and clearly roadblocked by the poor state of the networking solutions, with Serving Meshing getting on for around 2.5 years late.

And you mooch past with a 'people complain when games are rushed' simplification?

No good sir. This does not fly. (Much like the $850 base-building Pioneer ;))

That is all. Good day :)

As bad as 4 years ? Just a big and giant LOL. This one sentence proves that you don't know the game.
Have you installed the alpha and your pagefile on a SSD with 16Mo memory ?

Grouping is not a nightmare, it's not true. Show us a recent video where it fail and I will believe you.

LinusTechTips had about the same grouping experience as I do -- spend an hour (or more) trying to get together, fighting crashes or server issues, just so you can do a mission where hopefully things don't fall apart and you have spend yet another hour or so meeting up in game.
Ha yes, Linus. The one killing his friends again and again and again during the whole video ? Or the one who committed suicide every 10 minutes ? Do you know that the alpha is way more stable now than at the time when Linus made this video ? Do you now that the grid system and airlocks have been greatly improved recently and other "minor" QOL improvements ?
It's an alpha, the game change patch after patch.

And this has what to do with SC's dysfunctionality for people who aren't you?

And nothing. I simply passed a view on a public forum that the reality is for most people that regularly play SC, we have a blast and a label of "complete" really doesn't mean anything; SC isn't except from criticism but I have as much fun playing it as I do any "complete" game and frankly find it far easier to play in groups (a SHARE button to share and complete missions together FDev, ground breaking) than ED and as far as multicrew goes SC is frankly more stable and dependable than ED.
Congrats on not only getting scammed, but helping CIG scam someone else!

Funny how the question of "Do you even play Star Citizen?" becomes "Have you played Star Citizen recently?" to the statement "You aren't playing/installing it right."

I guess my own experiences playing Star Citizen are somehow not in line with reality.

Like it's great that you guys enjoy the game, bugs and all, but some of us do not. There's serious issues with the game that even the most hardcore of backers admit are frequent problems.

The strawman, it buuuuuuuurrrrrns us.

Cool, glad we never have to speak again.

Pretty sure there's an ignore function on here thinking about it.

I could complain on games that are late,
I could complain on games that are rushed,
I could complain on games that make their devs crunch,
I could complain on games with predatory marketing practices,
I could complain on games overpromising,
I could complain on games underdelivering,
I could complain on games sat on lies,

Shockingly SC has these all.

Congrats on not only getting scammed, but helping CIG scam someone else!

Just HOW is he being scammed?

We know it's an alpha, we know it's been that way for a long time and may never release, he asked if I enjoyed it and I told him the truth, he picked himself up a starter pack and in his own words he's got more enjoyment out of his 40 quid than he has out of Odyssey or anything else he's played in the last year.

I have more time spent in Star Citizen than I do No Man Sky and I have way more fun. I literally don't care if it's ever realised, my £40 was worth the time I've spent in it.

Especially outdated...
Can you check for us which ones are still relevant ?
Do you know also that 30K are more and more rare ?
Have you seen how bug's video are less and less frequent here ? Yet we were assured to see all the best here, really strange this recent shortage...

Not especially. Some things have had a fix that may be holding (vehicles + elevator). Some new bugs have come along with 3.14 (ramp + player collision, 'fixed', but still happening). So it goes.

I know that terrible desynch has outstripped 30ks as the most common networking complaint, but that 30ks still happen plenty, anecdotally ;)

Not sure why you think bug videos are less frequent when Ecity is practically a one man display cabinet on that front, with a focus on bugs which speak to systemic tech issues within the game (IE physics grid handovers, collision detection deaths etc).

But hey, let's see what the reddit sub's up to?

Generic bugs are just part of the backdrop man. Always there. S'all good. (Unless they point to more major tech woes ;))

"My anecdotal experience negates your experience," I type, as I try to shoehorn in a reference to something that has nothing to do with the topic at hand.

I mean, you seem desperate for me to reply to you sooo okay?

Not sure what either of your replies to me have to do with anything I've said. I simply have stated my group and I have a lot of fun in Star Citizen; don't agree? Okay, cool. I've got my £40 worth I'm sorry you didn't.

I should mention in passing...discussing Star Citizen in any positive light on here can be like opening a proper barrel of monkeys, all with fists full of freshly excreted monkey crap to start chucking at random posters fresh to the affray...

I get away with it sometimes, but only rarely. I've just got used to ducking when the monkey-poo flingathon starts :D
