New Planet Tech is KILLER of Exploration (all terrain is tiling/repeating/not procedural/random)

I’ve been taking another look at SC lately. My play time is limited and ED has pretty much been the only game I’ve been playing, but lately I’ve been giving some serious consideration to moving over. SC seems to be getting better and better with every patch, and ED worse and worse.
I keep watching SC with a curious eye. The fact that the WKs hate SC so much must mean it's better than we've been led to believe around here ;)

I own KSP but have never played it.

Correct this horrible travesty immediately!!!!!!

I must confess that when i first saw star citizen's ships i was very impressed. Not just at the way they look from the outside (so much more interesting than ED's blob designs) but the way their insides seem to be a seamless and integral part of the game. But, it doesn't have a galaxy to discover right? No randomly created planets and stars etc, so what's the point? Just another fancy shooter really, and with terrible frames per second.

I think the devs have gone past trying to make a space game, and are trying to recreate real life in all its mundane glory. Must admit though, i loved the train, because i'm a very sad man. I'll pass on 'realistic ice-cubes in glass' though.

every time a player with money says I want this they stop make ice cubes stop dev and fix all the stuff ice cubes broke and ride a train lol

I just googled Star Citizen now, first video i see is one by 'Down to Earth Astronomy', a huge fan of Elite Dangerous, and it's entitled 'Is Star Citizen for you'. When Youtube content creaters like him and Obsidian Ant (who lately is focusing on MS flight simulator) appear to be moving on, you know you've scored a massive own goal. And there was no need for it either, Horizons was great and could have been made much greater.

Nope, it isn't. No matter how many new posters on these fora keep bringing up the question (not talking about you, you're obviously not new).

SC is the same today that it was two months ago. An almost decade old tech demo as unlikely to be finished in my lifetime as I am likely to ever fly a real Krait to Proxima Centauri.

Odyssey being a colossal flop didn't change any of that.

The words "frying pan" and "fire" occur for some reason ;)

(If you wanna test the waters with SC you can always try a free fly event though. Just remember they gift you a small fleet worth '$100s’ there. If you buy in at the base alpha package you just get a basic Aurora or Mustang to grind up from. Bugs and future wipes willing ;))

There we go, standard warnings given :)

Appreciate the info. Yeah I’m just reading up and doing all the homework about it right now. I’d never buy one of those crazy ship kits, but I wouldn’t mind spending less than $100. I never supported that buying ships for real money thing so I’d only spend a “new game price”.

Yeah I know it’s not really a game yet and probably never will be so I’d have to buy it just to have fun with the game mechanics they have in the sandbox environment.

They have sales for their packages so I’ll probably wait for that, or something that includes LTIs. Also, I’ve heard mention that they will be stopping the progression wipe so that’s another reason I’m looking at it now.

As someone who’s only ever done free flies (and is still on a 'wait til launch' holding pattern with SC, due to its infamous issues ;)), I’d recommend testing your rig’s performance in a free fly before any purchase. (Simple stuff like not having an SSD can render it close to unplayable, and top end GPUs don’t guarantee good performance etc, so worth the check.)

Going in thinking of it as a buggy alpha sandbox (that might not coalesce) is probably the wise way to treat it though ay ;)

Wouldn’t get too hung up on trying to win the ship buying game just yet. Many a concierge ($1K+ spent) has been formed that way ;). (LTI doesn’t even have a defined game function as yet, for example.)

On wipes they’ve been essentially on pause for an age now. Ultimately though the plan is to wipe again. (With only $ purchased content persisting etc). Would be interested in any intel suggesting otherwise for sure.

I think where I heard that is on one of the Elite Week videos that they did recently where they were talking about SC. They may have just meant no wipe for every little patch though, there might still a wipe for bigger additions, like you said.

I confirm in the last year I never lost any of my progress through the various patches
