Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Except when genuine questions get buried under 4+ pages of the latest CiG criticisms. Dunno just feels like a lot of the politics stuff gets rehashed and not really anything revelationary is added. Absolutely point out the flaws of a game, just does the same stuff needed to be said every day multiple times a day?

This thread moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while you might miss it. ;)

Salt, jokes, and lots to laugh at!

Yes, sure, this is totally going to be in game...

PvP killing PvE! News at 11!

CIG have been saying 'X is coming' for a longgggg time. Frequently roadmapping said things and then not delivering them, often for multiple years in succession. As a fairly heightened example, let's look at the infamous 3.0 Roadmap, targeted for delivery over the 2017+ period:

C5UjloB.jpg

Nearly 5 years later, and huge sweeps of that content and tech are nowhere to be seen. And everything which has been added, with the notable exception of mining, is in a 'Tier 0' introductory form. IE nowhere near the level of functionality or complexity that CIG say they aspire to. Both in terms of the ship functionality and the player professions.

You could have dropped in on CIG land in any of the intervening years and heard that loads of it was coming 'this year +1'. Salvaging for the ($400) Reclaimer, to make it more than just a shell. Multiple star systems to explore in all of those shiny exploration ships. Etcetera etcetera.

This is the downside to CIG's apparent transparency. They talk a damn good game, but there's currently a fairly absurd lag on them actually delivering it ;)

So, I'm afraid, lol at the very idea of SC having 'Full VR support' in 'a few years', for example 😁

And it's also worth noting on the capital ship videos that they don't actually exist as a playable vehicles in SC currently.

If you wanna assess whether SC is for you, (and indeed, whether it has executed a game mechanic in a better way than other titles), you need to first discern the difference between their marketing bling, and their actual delivered things ;)

Out of morbid curiosity... am I the only one who thinks that an "Armstrong moment" is being the first person to set foot on a world, and not merely exiting a hatch?

edit:
Let's be fair: fundamentally the moment Armstrong had wasn't in the "walk" from his seat to the vacuum but in the fact to be the first to put a foot on a planet no other human did.

Yes! I'm not alone!!! :D

Feel sorry for everyone who didn't get LTI on their ships back in 2013. One of the advantages of backing early is getting perks later backers don't get.

Of course, that's why you build hype and generate FOMO to get those sales in the early period. People don't want to miss out on those cool extras only early backers get!

Early backers got next to nothing, certainly no advantages over current backers except perhaps original concept ships for a lot cheaper than they are now...and LTI is so common it's almost difficult not to have it...or at least 120 month insurance... attached to a ship or ship package these days.

Depends on what game you like to play, Star Citizen, the store credit/CCU game, LTI token or grey market game....or all of them. Personally, I'd recommend none of them unless you go into Star Citizen with a healthy 'warts and all attitude' and keep your mind open and wallet shut :)

I play the game as intended and remain aware of the warts and all. I can't fathom investing thousands of dollars into a game that has no end in sight just yet of releasing, on some ships that will be available through ingame means. If you have the disposable income for it, all the more power to you as you're having a hand in the development of the game. But my meager means àrse will stick with my Aurora and work my way up lol.

For sure, the "best" way to go into SC is with an open mind and a closed wallet, and see what is there and what you like/dislike.

Totally agree.

I say best in quotes of course because otherwise you end up going down a rabbit hole.
