The game is not worth fixing

I own 9 ships (including a Sidewinder left in Dromi) and most of them just sit in a hangar.

I like to fly the Cobra everywhere I go. I use the DBX if I want to quickly head somewhere a few hundred ly away and don't want to take the whole fleet along. The Python when I grudingly go for some mining. And the T9 to buy and sell stuphz if I need some more monies (I keep about 300-400 million cash on hand).

Probably not the typical Elite pilot :)
I have 7 ships. Sidewinder (left in starting zone), Type 6 (CG reward), Python (miner), Cobra III (cargo/bubble bus), Keelback (with the SLF for bounty hunting), an ASP and an Imperial Eagle. The latter two are Odyssey mission runners with SRV bays and missiles. Not touched the first 4 ships since I started playing Odyssey. This is so much fun I see no reason to buy a bigger ship or more ships. And I have a Fleet Carrier (that is not cluttering up a popular system).

Also not a typical Elite pilot, but one who is content with his lot.

Have posted this before, the game mechanics can’t be easily changed.

You “fly” or you “walk”, either way you shoot/scan/scoop/carry/collect/modify/buy/sell.

You do get different visuals. However, in the end, game play is pretty static.

Once you’ve played as long as many of us have, the game’s allure can certainly be diminished.

Maintaining interest is personal, can see why some leave others stay.

No no, i get the pig part. But fixing things would make it less of a pig, surely.

Well, unless you think there is nothing that can be done.

Personally, for me, its only performance that is the only big issue. Sure, planets need some work, lighting, etc. But I the content is ok. They could do with lowering the grind for materials, but i think that will come after the community complains non-stop for the next 2-3 years, like happened with ship engineering :p

But what you suggested, that was pure lipstick.
Yes I agree, they aren't fixing the things that make it a pig though. I feel like there's nothing that can be done at this point and they should just go back to making it a space flight sim and focus on that. They almost had something.
Yes, they could make sure what they've already output is optimized (should have been done before release), but to continue more with the on foot stuff or some of the other things on their list is pointless to me as it's a completely disparate from the game that we all purchased years ago.

Ship interiors more ship interaction, EVA, more planet variation (water, plants etc.), player based economy introduction, adding to exploration, less focus on settlement massacres, improve missions, add a common enemy, ie on foot thargoids, add some kind of story based mode, a season pass type system should have been added for their own sake, more ship unlocks, this all should have been the main focus of this Odyssey release IMO.

But you're right OP, FDev should just completely abandon several years worth of work and add a couple of new shiny ships to EDH to make everyone happy.
Nah, they should have taken the time to build a dedicated server DLC and a modding API to go with it ;)

Diverse galaxies, handcrafted planets, new ships, varied bases, flight computers, different lores and laws. Oh, the possibilities.
And everyone would still need to buy the game to play. A sure win for FD.

But FDev didn't do that, they made Odyssey instead. And the OP seems to be suggesting that FDev should cease work on it because it's not worth saving. My point is that such a suggestion is ridiculous and impractical 😉

Oh well, agree to disagree ;)

I am hoping the next DLC will be atmospheric worlds though over ship interiors. I can only "explore" so much ship interiors. :p

At this point it's just putting lipstick on a pig.
I haven't played in a long time, no desire to play--I keep checking in to see what has changed, to my disappointment nothing has changed.
Why not just release a new ship or two we can fly around for a bit? That boggles my mind, it would have kept me in the game for a while longer anyway.
Hey man.

I‘m curious, when was the last time you played? I think progress has been made, and I think Update 7 will continue that arc.

This is what I see when I look at the Milky Way in ED

Depends, if the atsmophere is done like the tenuous right now (as in, here's a colored sky, but your ship handles the same), then it really doesn't matter what the next DLC is going to be. But then again, I'm jaded.

Well, if that jaded, you might as well be jaded about how FD will implement ship interiors as well ;)

Collect 50 (whatevers) to repair your FSD manually. :p

Word. If it turns out the other way, first thing we'd complain about would be the bathrooms anyway. While nature is to be appreciated as is, as long as the simulation is credible. If the devs know what's better for their stress level...
