Newcomer / Intro My Return to ED ......

I always type in Sagittarius A*.
Do you remember The Pilot and the Krait Phantom episode where he goes to Sagittarius A* and his guest talks about the meaning of * in A*?
Indicates it is a strong source of radio emissions.
No. I don't remember but because it's me, I'm not surprised. :( Where can I see in again? Thanks.

9606.71ly from Zunao OV-B d14-4797 where I have moved to and will jump again any second now...
Thank you. It's "close" as each System's coordinates indicated.
If you were away from "ZUNAO ..... " and "KYLOARPH ..... " could you determine the direct distance between them
using your Galaxy Map
OR
any other way from inside your cockpit and NOT using a 1st or 3rd party external source ?
Thanks.

........
EDIT: It's the hyphen that's the problem.
You don't even need the A*.
SAGITTARIUS works with nothing else.
Maybe there is only one
SAGITTARIUS and it's the same as SAGITTARIUS A*, but won't work for SAGITTARIUS-A*
I need to check where I got the SAGITTARIUS-A* ....... 😮
EDIT2:
There's no such bloody place as SAGITTARIUS-A* ! That is with the hyphen. S!it ! Must have been a speck of dirt on my screen. ;)

If I select another star on the ship Galaxy map it tells me how far away that star (or blackhole) is.
See below. My ship is 2,295.79ly from Sagittarius A* right now.

Yes, you are at "HYPIAE ....... " so I would expect that to be so.
But I asked: If you were away from "ZUNAO ..... " and "KYLOARPH ..... " could you determine the direct distance between them using your Galaxy Map ......
I now add: "say you're with me in the LHS 2265". ;)

I didn't watch it.
Why?
Because at the time Sagittarius A* (without the hyphen meant nothing to me :ROFLMAO: ) and watching U-Tube clips eats up my "pay upfront" GB allowance.
Bloody cheap-skate I am ..... :sneaky:
God ! I'm sitting here in the dark, on my very own, not a sound around me, inside or out, watching the clip on full screen, with tears literally running down my cheeks.
What an f'ing place, (sorry, it's the only real adjective that can describe it), incredible! o_O
Got to live long enough to get there. Not joking. (y)

And of course (knowing all about me of course!), they have an adjacent clip of David Gilmour singing "Comfortably Numb...... "
And now I'm a complete mess ...... 🥲😢😭

Not using the galaxy map on the ship. I would use a 3rd party tool to work that out - EDSM.net route planner. I think that will only work if someone had uploaded the system via EdDiscovery.

I don't think you can get enough data like angles and such to be able calculate a distance like that.

I watched this video before I had the credits to buy a Phantom. I then set a goal which took weeks to reach - engineer the best possible Phantom (or ASPX if it turned out I didn't like the Phantom when I tried it) that was resilient to whatever the galaxy could throw at it, and then take a scenic route to Sagittarius A*. Reaching that goal made me do things like mine 500 units of something and other stuff to get access to engineers. While the laser mining was dull, the trading with 50 markets was fun, I made a ton of credits and got me to Tycoon trader - one short of Elite. On my way to Sagittarius A* I sold some exploration data at a DSSA carrier and gained Elite rank in exploration. So I arrived at Sagittarius A* in my idea of a perfect exploration ship as an Elite explorer (y)
I spend ages playing with the light lensing effect of the blackhole, and returned for a second visit in the orange Orca a short while ago.

The benefit of reaching Elite rank is you get a permit to access the Shinrarta Dezhra system and Jameson Memorial space station where every ship and module in the game is available at a 10% discount. I made Elite rank weeks ago, and I have not been to Jameson Memorial yet :ROFLMAO:
Too busy in Colonia and exploring.

There are some other blackholes on the route to Sagittarius A* which are well worth visiting in their own right, but also serve to give a greater sense of scale for the supermassive blackhole at the galaxy core.
One of my favourites is at a tourist destination known as Black and Green.

Here are a couple of small black holes that I recently found...

And also a green.ish coloured one too like yours...

Right thanks. What I had expected.
I'm about to add another limitation to my mode of play:

To only use tools that are available with-in ED-H, such that EDSM and maybe even EDDB are unavailable to me.
Why?
I want to become totally familiar with the tools that ED-H has to offer. eg. The Galaxy and System Maps, all the things available in the right-hand panel (I can't ever bring its name to mind), learning to use the FSS, practicing Fuel scooping, maybe landing on a Planet, using an SRV is it called, etc.
When I can use all that is available, THEN I'll start using the 3rd party tools.

That's why I was asking you about the 'between System's distance question', only using the Galaxy Map. ;) Wish me luck ..... :sneaky:

Sorry. Yes you can. You don't need any angles with Pythagoras. However, because ED is in 3-dimensional space you have to complete Pythag. 3 times. Alternatively, I could do it by developing a special equation (although it would be known to any good ..... Geomatrition is it, ..... can't think of the right profession (and yet I used to teach with them 😖 ).
However, when I get to using the 3rd party tools you use, I won't need it. 😜

Oh shut up! Go away! You'll make me break all my restrictive playing limitations. :ROFLMAO:
I'm already talking about landing on a planet, which, with posts like this one, is making it even harder to stay in my little 10LY 'MySystem'.

Jokes aside. Your post is fantastic reading! I can sense your enthusiasm, maybe sleepless nights, putting other things off. ;)
Funny, I'm limiting my "method of play", but it's all meant to consolidate my fundamental skill level, BEFORE I venture further. Your post just makes me work harder. (y)

I walked a cautious path initially - shorter exploration trips (going out 600ly, 2x1200ly, 7500ly, 17000ly round trip) earning lessons when crashing into high G planets, lots of SRV driving and gathering raw materials. All in a Hauler, then ASP X, then Phantom, then Anaconda before settling on the Phantom. You can never express in a forum post what you'll actually learn doing all that.
