As others have mentioned, Fleet Carriers are A Bit Nice But Honestly Far From Necessary In The End and Actually A Bit Pointless™.
Once you have your Carrier, you're looking at upkeep fees of 5 million a week, and that's at a minimum. (If you're using it as a personal storage vehicle, you'll want refueling included and active, so another 40m module purchase, plus another 1.5m per week upkeep on top of the 5m base.)
Don't forget fuel on top of it. Tritium is expensive, and can't be scooped. Either buy it at around 45k per unit, or mine it. (You don't want to mine it, it takes forever.) Plan on 68-100 units of tritium per jump (so up to 4.5m) plus another 100k "hull fee" each jump.
So basically, if you're jumping to a new system once a week, expect the luxury of having a Fleet Carrier to cost you a minimum of 10-15 million credits each and every week. And honestly, all you can do is dock there. (There's the side benefit of storing cargo there, if you're amassing it for whatever reason)
Now, consider the other option of just choosing a home station, leaving all your ships there (free) and just using something like a long-range DBX to go to the station you want to hang out at next, and transfer the few ships you want to have on hand.
Disclaimer: I own a fleet carrier, but the only reason I do is that I made billions on the Low Temperature Diamond rush of last summer, and have the money on hand to keep it going for years. If I hadn't, there's no way I'd sink the five billion on one.
