Subscription model for better multiplayer experience... Would you pay for it ?

What is the current number of players visible to each player for a game to be considered "massive"?

Well, I suppose it is subjective. Perhaps for you 24 players constitutes a massive gathering. For me, in the context of a 'massively multiplayer online space adventure', I cannot help but feel underwhelmed. I immediately compare it to other games with a similar billing. EvE and Planetside are the ones I'm drawn to. Even other albeit slightly less relevant games like WoW offer 40 man RAID's. I'd be happy with a 60-100 player cap, not massive but enough for a good sized engagement before everyone starts lagging out.

I used flawed argument because i cba quote all the comments that boil down to "i dont want to pay because i dont want to pay".
Because "can't" pay, when we talk about 5 dollars a month is pretty much a lie.

If you really don't have 5 bucks to spare a month gaming should be the least of your concern.

I can spend 5$ a month - it is the principle! I used to buy and own my games not to rent them. I will not support this awkward logic. And as I stated with my previous posts on this thread, pay to play games do not earn that much money as free to play games therefore there is utterly no need to pay anything monthly. But I gladly purchased E: D Expansion pass and Cobra Wireframe paintjob. And since we can own multiple ships, I will gladly purchase other paintjobs for ships I like. I hope you understand the difference between those two.

That's pretty offensive - not everyone can afford to commit money in this manner. For others, it's the principle. For yet others, it's a cost / benefit consideration - how many hours do they need to play to justify to themselves / significant other spending $X per month on the game?

If you really don't have 5 bucks to spare a month gaming should be the least of your concern.

.... and for some, gaming is that escape from reality that makes not having a spare $5 per month to spend on a game (that has already been bought and paid for, btw) a bit more bearable.

Either add something constructive to the thread or not at all

Peace

Yes Sir Thank you Sir!!

Also to everyone who says that can't pay 5-10 Euro/dollars/we per month how can you buy an expansion?

Flawed arguments everywhere.

I'll give you that one...... very flawed argument given I have ALREADY paid for ALL my DLC.

I like to know upfront costs. There is nothing flawed in that logic at all. I paid my £110 becasue it was a defined amount of cash to give me the COMPLETE game experience. That is what I paid for and that is what I will receive.

This whole thread is flawed because the game is already marketed as something, and it cant (possibly legally cant) suddenly overnight change direction and say to people who have already paid ohh on 2nd thoughts you have to pay more... and indeed FD have not even remotely shown they want to do that.

now nonsense "tat" DLC which is purely optional I am fine with, and who knows maybe 1 day I will throw a few more quid in, but the thing there is it is fully optional and wont affect my game content.

I suggest before demanding what other people can and cant post you take your own advice.

wow you really are something!!!

I do not want to pay because I have already paid..... are you really so blind as to not see the difference.

If you go to the shop and buy a DVD of a film, and after you paid for it, you were told if you want to keep watching the film you have to pay a continual fee, you would be happy with it then? you are a sales persons dream!.

My opinion, I would not hold my breath for this not becoming pay to play.

If it states somewhere that this is never going to happen then fair enough, but I bet it don't :)
.

Read the FAQ.... indeed I wish there was a check box where you have to tick "I have read the FAQ" before buying!

What are the general differences between "Elite: Dangerous" and "Eve Online"?

Elite: Dangerous is pay once and play, therefore does not have a periodic subscription like Eve Online.

Another major difference is that in EVE everybody within a star system is in one big instance and when there are too many people within it they slow down the update rate of the game.

This discussion is kind of funny. My first online gaming experience was Air Warrior, you got to log on and fly world war II fighters against other real people all over the world for the paltry sum of $6.00 an hour. Yes my friends that's an hour not a month, the arenas held I think 350 people and they were full, sometimes you had to wait in line to get in. What I can't understand is if back in the day I could dog fight using a 386 and a phone line with 350 other people in the same area why games struggle now to get 50 in the same arena without bogging down everybody. You'd think after this much time they would have gotten this stuff down.

An informed guess, and I was right because if you were into multiplayer you would be agreeing,, actually lol,, no you wouldn't, not at all..

Black IS the new white. :)

Enjoy.

What does "multi-player" mean in the context of your erroneous statement?

Ever heard of grey?

Grey, yep the colour of my hair, and I don't understand the next part of you sentence can you explain further please ?

For you to determine that I am not "into multiplayer", you should have a clear definition of everything that multi-player entails before you can make any such determination.

I just wouldn't want to meet only people on my server. That's if we're talking about a hypothetical Australia/Asia-Pac/South-East-Asia server. It was a dire experience choosing "either/or" in my last server-based MP game.

If there was just one mega-server, that would bring its own problems.

When ED's P2P works, it's absolutely terrific. If you get people identifying their own network gremlins via something like this, I reckon we'd honestly wonder what all the fuss was about in these threads. :)

Is this the place where we answer the Yes or No question? If it is then .... No.

If this is actually the place where I place my answer and then get brow beaten into changing my mind because the minority or majority of people don't agree with me then ..... it's still gonna be a No.

Peace out
