Need to upgrade from oculus cv1

I went from the CV1 to the Rift S, and currently on a Quest 2.

The jump in quality from the CV1 to the Q2 is immense 😁

Quest 2 has 3 manual positions for the lenses - the greatest separation is for people with an IPD between 66mm & 70mm.

Performance wise, I was running Horizons on a GTX 1080 without any issues with a game setting of HMDQ 1.25 and most settings at High/Ultra. Even at the default resolution the game is massively clearer than the CV1.

Also to note: the mandatory Facebook linked account thing is being dropped next year, if that’s the sort of thing that bothers you. It looks like we’re going back to the original Oculus account, but rebranded to the new Meta name.
I would have said everything you did right down to the settings
I have the Link cable and ED is the only time I use it because I’m sitting and I actually only bought it because I was having issues with it when I bought it so it was for troubleshooting The ā€œbig featureā€œ of the Quest 2 is that it runs wireless over Wifi so no you don’t actually ā€œneedā€œ the cable also being able to run it at 120hz definitely helps in ED because I’ve noticed it doesn’t really a ā€œvariable frame rateā€ so at stations it basically bottoms out at 60. So if you’re running the default 90hz that then becomes 45 which is definitely noticeable.
Oh as for the strap I ended up buying the BoBO V2 halo and was an absolute game change, totally balanced not feeling like it’s pulling your face off on the original strap

I was early with my Q2 it’s the 64gb one but for me I play mostly PC games with native oculus or steam so no issues regarding storage. Also being early I bought the oculus link cable but today that only ever gets used on the rare occasion I want a session that out lasts the charge - very rare for me. Lastly with regard the headphones and general fit I bought a ā€œHTC Vive Deluxe Audio Strapā€

So I too am considering upgrading from CV1 to Q2 in the new year. A couple of questions for folks who already have one.

1) Will all the Oculus store content I already purchased for the CV1 (e.g. Lone Echo, Robo Recall, Stormland, etc) just work with the Q2?

2) What's the actual deal with running tethered vs. untethered? Presumably I get better performance from tethered ('cos it's using my PC's GPU). Is it still the deal that I need to purchase some fancy Oculus USB cable to do this reliably? I'm pretty sure I heard somone telling me they were running untethered but still running games at full performance on their PC but I can't remember how. Over wifi perhaps? (but do you then need a super Ghz router to do this?)

All your content will work - that’s the easy one.

Tethers if you re read you’ll see you don’t need the official oculus cable.

Wireless over Airlink. This is built into both the Oculus dash - under beta, and the Q2. However you do need to be close to your WiFi router. When I got mine WiFi 6 had just come out and was what everyone recommended. I bought a wifi6 router and put that I front of my gaming area. It’s connected via TP Link Power lines.

Now see I’ve read mixed messages about purchase transfers. Seen people in game reviews complaining about having to rebuy games when they upgraded but then the titles you list would show up to be for Rift for me(when cable lLinked the Quest itreated as aā€Riftā€)I would actually go to those games store pages and definitely check the reviews. ALSO something I learned that may also support issues with prev purchases My friend has i believe a RIFT2 and is still using an Oculus Account I of course an using an FB account . We CANNOT be friends I can see him if I search and can send a invite but he cannot accept it so we cannot play together
So my point ti that is youā€œre current purchases are on an Oculus account Quest will require a Facebook Account so yeah you see where Iā€˜m going here,,,Oculus has. Metric Ton of gatekeeping. I have a friend wh actually talked into the Quest who I have as a friend just fine I bought Arizona Sunshine on the desktop App he bought the HMD version(didn’t know there were 2) Well we can’t pl ay together either.
I STRONGLY advise you to contact Support and inquire about upgrading and your current library. I have a very bad feeling your gonna get screwed because you will NOT be able to register your Quest 2 using your current Oculus account which all your current purchases are registered to.

That’s interesting point. As an early adopter my Q2 account was my Oculus account, it was about 1 year in that they ā€œconvertedā€ me to Facebook. So I can at least confirm from your list that my Lone Echo works but as is pointed out here you should ask them. Sorry if I misled you, as I say I was an early adopter.

I seem to recall something similar. I'm fairly sure that, although I go to oculus.com to see my list of purchases for example, I'm logging in with my facebook account. Is there an easy way to know for sure?
