Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

I took a trip out to the Crystalline Shards with both my Codger account and my Alt account, mostly because my Alt has no mats, but also because I was curious about what's changed out there.

I played in Horizons on my Alt, just to get it done and not have any surprises. It went as expected, and I was able to fill up on some high-grade raw mats.

Then I went down to check things out with Codger in Odyssey, taking my little Viper MKIV and a Scorpion SRV.

The planets looked much better in Odyssey, and I had no trouble at all finding Crystalline Shards. I don't know what everyone's been upset about, they were everywhere in the very first place I landed (in the blue zone). They weren't as densely packed as in Horizons, but there were lots of them, and they dropped the same material (in this case Polonium).

I was able to shoot the crystal fragments with the Scorpion, and pick them up, no problems.

I was even able to shoot them with my pistol on foot, but I could not pick them up on foot.

They were scannable for Exobiology too.

Here's the planet in Horizons, and then Odyssey, from the same exact location, just to compare the looks.

I'm going to continue on out a bit further before coming back I think. See what I can find on some of the other systems that used to have Crystalline Shards.

The Odyssey missions are very well done, lots of fun, with a rather huge learning curve. Great stuff. I'm not much of an FPS player but I'm really enjoying the Odyssey missions.

And walking around is excellent, really adds to the old immersion factor.
And not all the walky stuff is shooty stuff. Plenty of missions don't involve any combat at all and there're are stealth tactics to avoiding combat - in certain mission types - altogether.

Just to follow up on my previous findings, I went out to Outotz LS-K d8-3 B5 a, to check the crystalline shards there. In Odyssey they were very spread out. The entire planet was a blue zone. I had to search a bit to finally find them. When I did, they were bugged in some way. Many of the crystal fragments could not be shot, they were invulnerable. I was able to get a few to drop off, and they did contain Yttrium. But in the end I had to go back to Horizons to get a better yield. So I guess it's hit and miss.

Yes, the EDO raw mat gathering leaves a lot to be desired :(

On another note, the T10 is very much overkill for ending scavs with missiles - the spread is too wide. Oh well, at least I have some semi-engineered modules to store.

Question: would a seeker missile rack seek on-foot hostiles or are they just ship-to-ship?
If the on-foot hostiles are actually shooting and hitting your ship they can be locked by the ships weapons but I don’t think the lock holds long enough for a seeker to acquire, which is a shame, of course the other problem is while you are trying to fluke the lock the hostiles are shooting your ship.

Good grief the Odyssey UI is a bit of a... change 🙀

Also I just left the station without leaving my ship. Maybe I just missed the button?
You'll get used to it quickly. I hate going back to Horizons now.

As for getting out of your ship, it's in the menu there, with Launch -- Disembark. You can disembark at all stations.

To Disembark on a planet, it's in the crotch panel, like the SRV.

Is there a way to stop showing the 'city' indicator on bodies that don't actually have a real starport? My system maps have a lot of those three-bars-means-land-here overlays, then I zoom in and it's all civilian outposts?

(Also I can't tell if it's Odyssey, but I've jumped to about 6-7 inhabited but 'unexplored' Colonia systems and not one of them has a space station... I don't think I've ever seen a system without a station before. I just want a reliable agricultural system to be friends with, I don't want to have to do a planetary landing every time 🙀 )
