Game Discussions Star Citizen Discussion Thread v12

Well yeah. So has Paradox put racists into Stellaris, and the anti Xeno initiative in ED.... racist!

And what makes this difference? Can UE4 defy physics? In what way are these engines programmed that they would have saved so much time and money using them?
Actually if you pretend to make a physically accurate simulation, you shouldn't have to defy physics ;)

Oh and by the way, for example any serious engine should let be able to switch on or off the physics as devs see fit. Even Unity manages to automatically (or programmatically) put rigidbodies physics in sleep mode given an inactivity threshold so there's no superfluous physics calculations overload or wacky behaviours like hundreds tons ship blown by a wind...

Cryengine was fully capable of delivering S42, mores the irony.
That is HIGHLY debatable, considering there's clear evidence that Star Citizen "simulates" space in CryEngine by using NoClip mode and placing everything in the underwater mode to imitate a lack of atmosphere in space, not to mention the scale problems due to the relatively small level size in the version CIG is using.

And what advantage would these have brought

Well they wouldn’t be dealing with absurd stuff like this ten years down the line:

Some of our game code is still client authoritative, which means that players with high ping can adversely affect the play experience for everyone else. There’s not much we can do about this in the short term but it’s something we want to improve on after Server Meshing is working.

Of it’s various famous downsides, being deeply multiplayer-unfriendly is right up there.
